About me and my therapy practice

I'm a qualified, insured counsellor trained primarily in the 'Person-Centred' approach to therapy (LC&CTA, Lewisham) and a registered member of BACP since 2015. I'm also qualified to practice single-session therapy (SST).

I have 25+ years experience working within community and social care settings in Leicester and London via charity and local government roles. These roles involved working with richly diverse communities and individuals where facing daily adversity and risk taking was standard.

Life can be difficult. I get it...

My therapeutic work is motivated by goals of reducing stigma in talking about mental health and consequently, opening talking therapies up to more people. I know from personal experience that even simply having a safe and confidential space to open up about difficult thoughts and feelings can make a big difference to people's lives. My aim is to work alongside you to build strong and supportive personal foundations that will help you move through difficult times with increased insight and humanity and importantly, with skills formed around your own unique needs and lives. Such personal growth can provide the motivation to drive ahead in life with new awareness and resiliance to today's constantly changing challenges.

Practice description

If you're new to counselling you may wonder what to expect...

What I offer: A free 20 minute initial consultation. Further 50 min sessions either online or face to face (Stoneygate, Leicester). A non-judgemental, confidential space for you to freely explore your issues.

Any person over 16 years is welcome to access my service.

Personal change occurs through the development of the counselling relationship and the depth to which we explore the issues you bring along. Through this exploration we can discover the barriers that hold you back in experiencing a more authentic approach to your life.

Naturally this process at times may feel difficult, challenging. We may experience new, hidden or unknown aspects of your 'self'. These times are all important within the therapeutic process and I'll be alongside you as they occur.

Person-centred counselling can help individuals of all ages, with a range of personal issues. The non-direct style of this form of counselling appeals to many because clients are encouraged to build agency over the content and pace of sessions without worry of being judged or diagnosed in any way.

The length of time we spend together can often be defined by the extent of the issues you bring (from a one-off session to ongoing support). It's my job as your counsellor to establish and build increasingly strong, supportive conditions over our time together however long you wish this to be. Generally we'll review progress after 6 sessions.

Transparency across all aspects of my work is essential and you should expect this service from me at all times.
