About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I’m Imran. I am a counsellor and psychotherapist working with adults face to face in Manchester and online across the UK. I understand that distress is not always easy to name. You may continue with life while feeling absent from it. Your mind may live ahead of you, preparing for what could happen, while the past remains present in your body and relationships. A loss can alter not only who is beside you, but who you understand yourself to be. At times, your worth may feel dependent on the attention, approval or availability of another person. Therapy gives these experiences somewhere to be understood rather than quickly explained away. We pay attention to what you feel, what has been difficult to express and the ways you have learned to respond when something feels uncertain, painful or unsafe. I listen, ask questions and share what I notice. We decide together what fits and what may be missing. My approach has developed through more than 20 years in counselling and mental health services. My experience includes NHS Talking Therapies, adult mental health, assertive outreach, assessment, group work and supervision. I hold an MSc in Counselling and Psychotherapy, a Diploma in Person Centred Counselling and accreditation in Interpersonal Psychotherapy.

Practice description

TalkWise offers individual counselling and psychotherapy for adults. Face-to-face appointments take place on Fridays in a comfortable, quiet room with natural light at the Royal Exchange Building, Old Bank Street, Manchester M2 7PE. Online sessions take place through Microsoft Teams on Saturdays and Sundays. Detailed room and arrival instructions are provided privately after an appointment is confirmed. Sessions last 50 minutes and cost £70. Payment is by bank transfer and is due when booking. Sessions are paid for individually, with monthly payment in advance available by arrangement for appointments already agreed. I require a minimum of 72 hours’ notice to cancel or rearrange an appointment. With less notice, or for a missed appointment, I may retain or charge up to the session fee to reflect the appointment time reserved and any loss I could not reasonably avoid. If the appointment is refilled or the loss is otherwise reduced, the charge will be reduced or refunded accordingly. Exceptional circumstances will be considered fairly. If I cancel, you may choose a full refund or an alternative appointment. I am accepting new clients. Appointments are available from 10am to 8pm, with the final appointment starting at 7pm. A free 15-minute online introductory conversation is available before 5pm. I work with anxiety, depression, trauma, bereavement, stress, low self-esteem, relationship and family difficulties, cultural and generational pressures, identity and belonging, and recurring patterns. Therapy is available in English, Urdu, Hindi and Punjabi.

My first session

You can begin with a free 15-minute introductory conversation on Microsoft Teams, available before 5pm. This is a private, no-pressure opportunity to tell me briefly what has brought you to therapy and ask questions. You do not need to prepare or explain your full history.

If we decide to arrange therapy, the first paid session lasts 50 minutes and costs £70. We will think together about what you are experiencing now, what you would like to be different and any relationships or earlier experiences that may help us understand it. I will also explain confidentiality and practical arrangements clearly before we begin.

About me and my therapy practice

Therapy gives us somewhere to understand what is happening without rushing towards an answer. We can begin with what matters most to you and give careful attention to the experiences, relationships and patterns shaping your life now.

You can expect me to listen closely, ask thoughtful questions and remain engaged rather than distant or silent. If I misunderstand something, we can talk about it. Your experience remains central to the work.

My approach is person-centred and relational, with specialist training in Interpersonal Psychotherapy for depression. This allows us to consider both your inner experience and the relationships, losses and changes surrounding it, including why insight alone has not always been enough to create change.

I work with adults face to face in Manchester and online across the UK. I speak English and am fluent in Urdu, Hindi and Punjabi. I understand how culture, faith, family relationships, migration and generational expectations can shape a person’s life. That knowledge is available when helpful, while your individual experience remains our starting point. I welcome adults of all cultures, faiths and identities.

My work is informed by more than twenty years across NHS mental health services, psychological therapies, adult social care and private practice. I hold an MSc in Counselling and Psychotherapy and am an IPT UK Accredited Practitioner, BACP Registered Member and NCPS Accredited Registrant.

About me and my therapy practice

Knowing what is happening does not always make it easier to change. You may understand a pattern and still find yourself drawn back into the same feelings, relationships or ways of coping. Depression, anxiety, loss and prolonged pressure can gradually affect how you see yourself, other people and the possibilities ahead. Therapy gives us somewhere to understand what is happening without rushing towards an answer. We can begin with what matters most to you and give careful attention to the experiences, relationships and patterns shaping your life now.
