About me and my therapy practice

I am an experienced Counsellor, specialising in Couples counselling and relationship issues, and offer a warm and supportive space for individuals and couples to find a way through conflict, loss, and life changes; and to feel good about themselves and happy in their relationships.

How I can help couples

Counselling can offer an opportunity to find a way through in a relationship that has perhaps become stuck in the rut, or mired in hopelessness, negativity, and mistrust. It is not uncommon for couples to suddenly find themselves with no shared understanding, no hopes for the future, and bogged down in conflict. It can be hard to figure out when and how a relationship changed from a loving and companionable one to one of repeated misunderstandings, heated arguments or frosty silence.

Sometimes it is a stressful life event that has brought about the difficulty, sometimes physical or mental ill health that is hard to cope with. Sometimes disappointment have simply accumulated over time. Perhaps one partner is on the autistic spectrum and communication is difficult. It is well known that miscommunication is the single biggest thing that brings about relationship difficulties.

Even for couples who decide to separate, counselling offers the chance to part on amicable terms and/or parent well. This is hugely beneficial for the future of their families.

How I can help individuals

The longest and most important relationship you have is with yourself. Counselling can offer a chance to free yourself from nagging feelings of self- doubt, blame, guilt or shame. Some people need help to cope with their depression and anxiety – which is far more common than we like to believe. Others have suffered loss, or are living with anger and resentment. Some doubt their ability to sustain meaningful relationships with their families, friends or colleagues.

I can help you change- and manage- how you feel about yourself and how you deal with situations.

Practice description

You can talk to me in the knowledge that you will be listened to without judgment, and all conversations will feel safe and supported. I have trained in, and use an integrative approach which means combining a variety of models and techniques to arrive at solutions that suit you and your particular issues, rather than force you to fit a model.

All conversations are confidential.

My training and qualifications

I have a Masters degree in Relationship Therapy and have gained experience at Relate where I worked for over a decade.

My Doctoral degree in Psychology provides me with a very good understanding of human behaviour.

I am trained in Couples Therapy for Depression, which is recognised and used in the NHS for helping couple where one or both partners are living with depression and anxiety.

Head over to my website for more details about how I work and the various issues I can help with.

My first session

I offer a free assessment to help you talk through your difficulties, and establish what can be changed  to make things better. It is also your opportunity to decide whether I am the right person for you.

The assessment can be over the phone, online, or in person. After the assessment, you are under no obligation to sign up for counselling. Should you choose to commence counselling, you are under no obligation to attend a certain number of sessions.

I understand how hard it is to take the first step to seek professional help for very personal issues that you feel sad or angry about, or perhaps embarrassed to discuss. However, talking about it sets in motion the wheels of change, and you may be surprised to discover your capacity for resilience, and your ability to transform how you feel.
