Availability
I am available for face to face or online appointments Monday - Friday, including after hours appointments as needed.
No referral is required to make an appointment.
'After hours' and 'after school' times are usually busy. Where an 'after school' time is not currently available for a child or young person, I will either try and offer you an alternative time and/ or add you to a short waiting list for an 'after school' place.
Alternatively, I would be able to refer you to other practitioners in the North Tyneside area.
About me and my therapy practice
I am in private practice in North Shields where I see children, teenagers and individual adults.
I also meet with parents as a necessary part of the work with a child or young person. Alternatively, I can work with parents where there are difficulties in family relationships or where, for example, a teenager is struggling, but will not attend.
This sort of work can help the relationships, as well as the teenager, (or child), but indirectly.
I offer an 'at-depth' (psychodynamic / psychoanalytic) approach, which is able to address more serious and / or recurring problems, which may not have been helped by other forms of therapy.
As well as offering adult psychotherapy for a wide range of issues, I have a particular interest in and experience of therapeutic work with adults who have acute or recurring difficulties. These may include problems with relationships; ongoing or acute anxiety and/ or depression; anger issues, OCD; eating disorders; addictions; self-harm, gender issues, a troubled sense of self.
These sorts of problems may be the result of difficulties in childhood or adolescence which were not able to be attended to at the time.
I offer therapeutic work with children and young people and am able to see children and teenagers with a wide range of emotional and/ or behavioural problems, including those with more serious developmental problems.
I mainly work via non-directional play for children, which allows a child to express themselves in their own way. My response to them is based on my training, clinical thinking and experience. The outcome is that a child gradually feels and manages better in all areas
I offer a flexible, indirect approach for teenagers, adapted to the needs of each young person. (Inc issues re gender / sexual identity.)
I originally trained in adult counselling, however, I have undertaken further specialist (analytic) training to work at depth with adults, children and teenagers.
I have more than 16 years of experience in my own practice.

Fees
I usually now usually charge £55 for an initial consultation for an individual, £65 -70 for couples with difficulties in their relationship or with family relationships. (All fees are negotiable after the initial consultation.)
I charge £60 -70 for a longer (1.5 hours) initial consultation for parents. Any further consultations for parents after that are charged at £50-55.
My usual fees are £50 - £55 for an individual session for an adult, however, fees may be negotiated on an individual basis.
In the current difficult economic circumstances, with long waiting lists, especially for children and teenagers, I am willing to offer two low fee places for a child of 11yo or under, two for a young person of 12yo - 18yo and also two low fee places for an adult, where they could not otherwise manage to attend.
The offer is at £35- £40 per appointment.
These places are still available as at 22 October 2026.
My first session
I offer an initial online or telephone call of up to 20 - 25 minutes at no charge.
I usually allow one hour for an initial consultation for an individual adult or couple.
I allow one hour plus 20 - 30 minutes for an initial consultation for parent/s (or caregivers) of a child or teenager.
Session times after that are usually 55 mins for an adult and 45 - 50 minutes for children and teenagers, depending on their age.
