About me and my therapy practice

I am a qualified, accredited and experienced Psychodynamic Counsellor, with over 20 years experience of working therapeutically with clients from a wide range of ages and backgrounds.

I have been working therapeutically with adults, children and young people for over 20 years. I have worked in a variety of voluntary agencies, such as PACE (LGBTQ+ charity) and Brook Young People’s Services. I have also spent many years working in counselling and senior counsellor/manager roles in university settings. The settings I have worked in have meant I have been able to work with people from a wide range of social and cultural backgrounds, sexualities and gender identities, and, more recently, neurodiversities.

- I am committed to my work, and care deeply about people, their wellbeing and place in the world.

- I am a member of Climate Psychology Alliance

- I am also a musician and have a strong sense of the therapeutic value of music and our own creative expression

- Qualified (Birkbeck University of London) with MSc in Psychodynamic Counselling / Children & Adolescents (2006, Distinction)

- Accredited with BACP since 2008 (MBACP Accred) and work according to BACP Ethical Framework

Practice description

My core approach is psychodynamic - this means, at least to some extent, considering the impact of early years and experience on our present sense of ourselves in the world, and our relationships with others.

Understanding the origin of feelings and emotions that feel painful or confusing can help to make important changes in our lives.

Although this is the core of my approach, there is flexibility and I will always try to work with what you need from our sessions.

I am conscious of how difficult it can be to start talking openly, and my aim is to establish a a safe, creative connection – so that what has perhaps previously been unspoken can be shared, processed and understood together.

I would very much encourage finding the right person for you, and our introductory session would have this in mind, as well as an opportunity to think about what is most helpful at this time.

We might agree an initial contract of short term, focused work (6 - 12 sessions) -  or long term/open ended sessions with opportunities to review. It is usually most beneficial to meet weekly but we can discuss this together.

My first session

I can offer a free, 15 minute introductory consultation on the telephone/online so that we can think together about what you are looking for, how we might work together, and whether you would like to meet for a first session. You can ask questions during this consultation, or in advance of it via email/enquiry form if that is more helpful.
