About me and my therapy practice

I am a qualified Counsellor working with adults affected by addiction and compulsive behaviours. I support people experiencing difficulties with substances, sexual behaviour, relationships, shame, and emotional regulation.

My approach is integrative and relational. I aim to offer a steady, respectful space where clients can speak honestly and begin to understand the patterns that keep them stuck. Together we work towards greater self-awareness, responsibility, and sustainable change.

I am a member of the BACP Spirituality Division. This means I am experienced in working with clients who wish to explore spiritual or existential aspects of their experience. I do not impose belief systems; rather, I work with whatever framework the client brings.

Since 2020, I have worked as part of a team within a 12 Step Recovery Dynamics® residential rehabilitation service in Scarborough, supporting individuals in structured recovery. The service is regulated by the CQC and currently rated Good.

I offer face-to-face sessions in Hull and online sessions via Zoom.

If you feel I may be able to help, I welcome you to get in touch.

Practice description

I work with adults experiencing addiction, compulsive behaviours, and related emotional or relational difficulties. This may include problems with substances, sexual behaviour, intimacy, anxiety, shame, or patterns that feel difficult to control.

My approach is integrative and trauma-informed. I draw on attachment theory, recovery-based frameworks, and relational counselling. I aim to provide a calm and respectful space where clients can speak openly and begin to understand the emotional and behavioural patterns that affect their lives.

I have particular experience in addiction recovery. Since 2020, I have worked as part of a team within a 12 Step Recovery Dynamics® residential rehabilitation service regulated by the CQC. This experience informs my understanding of relapse prevention, accountability, and long-term change.

As a Certified Sex Therapy Informed Professional (CSTIP), I also work with sexual compulsivity, pornography overuse, intimacy difficulties, and attachment-linked sexual patterns. My approach is non-judgemental and focused on consent, integrity, and alignment between values and behaviour.

As a member of the BACP Spirituality Division, I am comfortable working with clients who wish to explore spiritual or existential aspects of their experience. I do not promote any belief system; I work with whatever framework the client brings.

Therapy is collaborative. My aim is to help clients develop greater self-awareness, emotional regulation, and healthier ways of relating — both to themselves and to others.

My first session

The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and to explore what has brought you to therapy.

We will talk about your current concerns, what you would like help with, and any relevant background that may help me understand your situation. There is no pressure to share everything at once. We go at a pace that feels manageable.

I will explain how I work, discuss confidentiality and its limits, and answer any questions you may have. We will also consider what you hope to gain from therapy and whether we feel like a good fit to work together.

If addiction or compulsive behaviour is part of what brings you, we may begin to look at current patterns and support needs. If trauma is present, the focus in the first session is always on safety and stability rather than detailed exploration.

The session lasts 50 minutes. There is no obligation to continue after the first meeting. If I believe your needs would be better supported elsewhere, I will discuss appropriate referral options with you.

The aim of the first session is simple: to begin a conversation in a safe, respectful space.
