About me and my therapy practice
I approach supervision from the perspective of support, encouragement, compassion and growth. To do this, I collaborate with supervisees to enjoy their work and to be the best they can be.
My focus is very much on being a resource that supervisees can access to strengthen and develop their work in a range of areas including professional standards, ethics, law and ways of connecting successfully with clients.
To provide some context, I'm an experienced BACP accredited counsellor having been in practice for over 30 years. I've also spent over 25 years supporting counsellors within their practice and trainees throughout their training.
My whole career has focused on mental health in one way or another. I completed my training as a mental health nurse in 1987 and my counselling training in 1993. I've worked as a counsellor and clinical supervisor in posts within the NHS, colleges, private practice and charitable organisations.
I was a lecturer in counselling for 25 years when I authored and delivered a BACP Approved route to registration.
I have also written three text books and numerous national counselling qualifications.
Practice description
Supervisees often choose to work with me for one of the following three reasons:
• You are a trainee looking for supervision from a supervisor who understands the requirements of your course
• You are setting up in private practice and looking for guidance with this
• You are experiencing a professional challenge and would like some guidance and support through it.
This might make me sound very formal and rigid but I'm not! My core training as a person-centred counsellor and extensive experience working integratively underpins my approach. I believe that supervision should be energising and enthusing and I strive to achieve that with reflection, gentle challenge and humour!
My appointments are currently offered via Zoom or in person (in Dunoon, Argyll).
My first session
Our first 15 minute introductory session is free of charge and is spent getting to know each other before deciding if we would like to work together.
I offer a concessionary rate of £50 per 60 minute supervision appointment for trainees.
