About me and my therapy practice

I am a counselling psychotherapist, working in private practice in Bath. I work with clients in person and also offer an online service.

I am a fully qualified professional counsellor accredited by the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists. A graduate of Cambridge University, I taught psychology for many years; before going on to acquire counselling qualifications from the universities of Oxford and Warwick.

I work in a humanistic and relational style drawing on the therapeutic conditions initially described in Carl Rogers’ Person Centred Therapy, coupled with the principles of Mindfulness. It is my experience that this combination builds up a powerful and synergistic trio of greater self-awareness, greater self-compassion, and greater resilience.

In essence, this approach is based on the premise that when offered appropriate support and insight, the solution to many of the problems that we struggle with can be found within ourselves.

Practice description

People who contact me are trying to make sense of their inner world – as it relates to past, present or future. And often all three.

Having worked with a highly diverse group of clients, I have encountered a great range of issues. I have experience of working with both adults and young people

Over the years I have developed a special interest in supporting individuals working in highly demanding roles within the professional service sector. Pressures at work can compromise the quality of our personal relationships, which in turn can undermine professional performance.

Seeking help is a difficult first step. The essence of counselling is a relationship of trust. If you are interested in working with me please contact me so that we can arrange an initial session.

My first session

At our first session, I will try to establish some sort of context for the issues that you bring. In subsequent sessions, I will take the lead from you in terms of the material that you wish to work with. You will determine how many sessions you would like to have; and although preferable to work towards a planned end, you will be free to stop at any time – without pressure to continue being applied.
