Availability
At Between the Trees and the Sea Counselling & Psychotherapy, I offer counselling and psychotherapy online, by telephone, face-to-face, and through outdoor eco-psychology and nature-based therapy sessions.
Outdoor sessions are available in a number of locations across the Vale of Glamorgan, including Porthkerry Country Park. With its woodland pathways, open spaces and areas close to the pebble beach, Porthkerry offers a beautiful and varied setting for outdoor therapy. I am also happy to explore other suitable nature locations across the Vale, depending on your preferences and what feels most appropriate for our work.
I also offer a free 20-minute introductory call, by telephone or online. This gives us an opportunity to talk about what is bringing you to counselling, ask any questions you may have and see how it feels to talk together. The introductory call is also available if you are considering outdoor therapy.
I offer morning and afternoon appointments, Monday to Thursday.
Please feel welcome to get in touch to discuss what you are looking for and whether we can find a suitable time.
About me and my therapy practice
At the heart of my work is the therapeutic relationship. I believe warmth, honesty and curiosity matter in therapy. I offer a compassionate, heart-centred and accepting space to explore what is happening in your life without judgement.
I am an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist, drawing on person-centred, humanistic, relational, existential, somatic, psychosynthesis and eco-psychology approaches. I work collaboratively, adapting to you rather than fitting you into one model.
Therapy can provide space to explore emotions, relationship patterns, identity, meaning and experiences that have shaped you, and what you are experiencing now. I recognise that our experiences are felt not only through thoughts and emotions, but also in our bodies. Noticing sensations such as tension, heaviness, numbness, restlessness or shutting down can help you become curious about what your body may be communicating. This can bring awareness to patterns and responses shaped by difficult or traumatic experiences, sometimes before you have words for them.
Where helpful, grounding, mindful awareness, breath, movement or other embodied practices may help you feel more connected and present. My somatic approach is gentle and collaborative, with no pressure to revisit difficult experiences before you are ready.
Nature is also important to my therapeutic work. My training in eco-psychology with Sweet Track in Somerset has deepened my understanding of how our relationship with nature can support reflection, connection and perspective. Outdoor therapy can offer movement, quiet, fresh air and a different sense of space, and may provide another way into experiences that can be difficult to put into words.
I’m mindful of working at a safe and manageable pace, particularly where traumatic experiences are involved.
I bring warmth, honesty, curiosity and, where appropriate, humour and lightness. You do not need to leave parts of yourself at the door. All parts of you are welcome here.
Practice description
At Between the Trees and the Sea Counselling & Psychotherapy, I offer a warm and compassionate space to reflect and make sense of what you are experiencing.
People come to therapy for many reasons, including anxiety, stress, trauma, PTSD, grief, relationship difficulties, domestic abuse, addiction, low self-esteem, life transitions, or feeling stuck or disconnected, alongside other life experiences and challenges.
I have over 10 years’ experience in private practice, alongside work with Women’s Aid, schools and occupational health. My experience includes trauma, domestic abuse, relationship difficulties, grief and complex grief, including baby and child loss, sudden death and anticipatory grief. I also work with children and young people.
I offer counselling and psychotherapy online, by telephone or face-to-face. Frequency is agreed together.
I also offer outdoor eco-psychology and nature-based therapy across the Vale of Glamorgan, including Porthkerry Country Park. Being immersed in nature, with trees, woodland paths and the sea around us, can offer a therapeutic space very different from a traditional counselling room. Being outdoors can create more space to breathe, move, reflect and connect to themselves differently.
My work is informed by eco-psychology, which recognises the relationship between psychological wellbeing and the natural world. The sights, sounds and rhythms of nature can support grounding and calm, and may help the nervous system move towards safety and regulation. Outdoor therapy can also incorporate mindfulness, meditation and somatic practices, which may support grief, trauma, anxiety, overwhelm or feeling disconnected from the body.
My eco-psychology and ecotherapy training with Sweet Track in Somerset informs this work alongside my integrative approach.
I also offer Rewind Therapy, a trauma-focused intervention for PTSD.
I am a registered member of BACP and work in accordance with the BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions.
My first session
Before starting therapy, I offer a free 20-minute introductory call by telephone or online. This is an opportunity to talk about what has brought you to counselling, what you are looking for, ask any questions you may have and get a sense of whether working together feels right. There is no obligation to continue.
If you decide to work with me, your first full session is a paid session and can take place online, by telephone, face-to-face or outdoors. We can begin to get to know one another and explore what has brought you to therapy, what you would like support with and what you hope might be different.
We can also talk about confidentiality, boundaries, practical arrangements and the pace and frequency of sessions. You do not need to have everything figured out or tell me your whole story. You are in control of what you choose to share, and there is no pressure to revisit difficult experiences before you are ready.
If you are considering outdoor therapy, the free introductory call remains by telephone or online. Your first full session would then take place outdoors, where we can begin to explore how working in nature feels for you.
My hope is that you will leave feeling heard, respected and at ease, with a sense of whether working together feels right for you.
