Monday-Friday I work from 12pm until 10pm. At the weekend, I work from 12pm until 5pm.
About me and my therapy practice
I am Dr Alexander Fox, an experienced counsellor and supervisor working in Dundee, St Andrews and online. I offer a thoughtful, integrative and pluralistic approach, which is tailored to you as an individual.
In my experience, many people come to therapy when they seem to be managing life outwardly, but inwardly they feel anxious, flat, conflicted or uncertain. For example, you may be struggling with anxiety, low mood, grief, perfectionism, relationship difficulties, burnout, self-doubt, or disconnection from yourself. Therapy with me can help you find the language for your pain and to help you move constructively forward.
A distinctive part of my practice is my literary and philosophical background. I have a PhD in English Literature, which was a psychoanalytic reading of Nobel laureate Harold Pinter's plays, drawing upon classical analysis as well as analysts from the object relations school, such as D.W. Winnicott. I am also currently completing a second PhD, this time in Philosophy, where I am studying regret and lament over major life decisions. In my work, I do not use literature or philosophy to intellectualise, but to illuminate questions of meaning, identity, regret, desire, loss, ambiguity and self-understanding.
I have over 12 years’ experience as a counsellor and over seven years as a supervisor, working with trainee and qualified counsellors. From 2018-2020, I worked on Harley Street in London.
I often work well with thinkers, creatives, artists, therapists, academics, educators, clergy, leaders and reflective people who want therapy that honours complexity. You may think deeply but feel emotionally stuck, have a strong inner critic, or want space where intellect, imagination and feeling can speak to one another.
My practice is LGBTQ+ affirming and welcomes people who have felt unseen, judged or hard to categorise. My aim is to offer a humane relationship where we can explore what matters and how you might live with clarity, kindness and authenticity.
The use of the title Dr in this directory listing relates to the member’s doctorate qualification. However, this does not imply a general medical qualification.

About me and my therapy practice
I trained as a pluralistic counsellor, and so I draw upon a variety of modalities when working with clients. Apart from my formal counselling training, I have a PhD in English literature (a psychoanalytic study of Harold Pinter's plays) and am currently working towards another PhD in philosophy (the theme is regret over major life decisions). My literature and philosophy background inform my practice, as they help me to understand a client's story and aid them in rewriting it, as well as they provide a a means for me to help the client think more constructively about whatever problems they are tackling. For more details on this, please consult the link to my counselling directory page.
Apart from being an experienced counsellor, I am also one of the most sought after supervisors in the Dundee area. I supervise trainees and qualified counsellors, helping them to understand counselling theory better and how to apply it in practice, and more importantly, how to discover and nurture their own identity as therapists.
Practice description
I welcome queries from any client that is 18 years of age or over. While I work with clients from all kinds of backgrounds, there are two groups that I work a lot with: Students/academics and members of the LGBTQ+ community.
I am available online or face-to-face at my Dundee practice.

About me and my therapy practice
I became a supervisor in 2019 after completing my COSCA training. Since then, I have worked with many trainees and qualified counsellors/therapists helping them to apply the theory to their practice, and more importantly, helping them to discover and nurture their own identity as a therapist.
Since I have a PhD in English literature, and am currently completing another in Philosophy, I often work with supervisees that see their clients at universities or colleges. However, I have worked with supervisees that are at a variety of different placements, and training at different institutions from Abertay university to Fife College, from Grounded Learning to Perth College. Indeed, with regards to trainees, I am one of the most sought after supervisors in the Dundee and Fife area.
Practice description
I adapt to the supervisee's needs, in terms of how much we need to meet face to face or online. I am happy to do both.
Regarding fees, supervision is £40 for the hour for trainees and £50 per hour for qualified counsellors.
