About me and my therapy practice
Life can be complex and difficult and the navigation of the tricky times can sometimes feel overwhelming. Counselling can help with this. I will listen to all that you want to say without judgement but with kindness and consideration. It could be that you are feeling anxious and that unhelpful thoughts are getting in the way of your every day life. Or maybe you feel depressed and lacking in motivation to engage with the world. Some people come into counselling because life has taken an unexpected and difficult turn, talking about what is happening with an experienced counsellor like me, can be hugely beneficial. Together we will unpack the difficulties and allow you the space to learn more about yourself and how things could be different. I offer a 15 minute introductory phone or online call. My website, sarahbailes.com has more information about me and how I work.
My original career was in advertising, I have a personal understanding of the complexities of the business world. During this time I worked for the Samaritans, which is where I think I first understood the power of really hearing an other.
Having started my new career in 2011, I gained a Postgraduate Diploma in Humanistic Psychotherapeutic Counselling from the University Of Brighton in 2016. I have also worked in colleges as a school counsellor and for a charity supporting those who have experienced pregnancy related loss. I work as a humanistic person centred therapist. I work across most areas of mental health and have considerable experience working with those struggling with feeling anxious or depressed.
I am a registered member of the BACP and I adhere to the BACP’s Ethical Framework for Counselling Professionals. I am fully insured.
Practice description
I offer general counselling and have experience of working with, amongst other issues, depression, anxiety, self harm, panic attacks, bereavement and relationship issues.
I have worked for a local charity for the last 10 years supporting individuals and couples who have experienced pregnancy related loss. I am continuing this work in my private practice.
I work with individuals and also with couples.
I am able to offer sessions in Hove and online. My usual rate is £70 for 50 minutes for individuals. Couples work is charged at £80.
My first session
The first part of the initial session is used as an assessment to ensure we can work safely together. I will ask you a series of questions about your background and current context. This usually takes about 15 minutes and then the rest of the time is devoted to the therapeutic work. We can discuss this in more detail in the introductory call if you take that option.

Practice description
Pregnancy loss of whatever kind can be an overwhelming experience. I would like to be available to support families going through this difficult time. I work from a person centred position and my work is designed to create a safe, emphathic non judgemental space. Often families may have experienced considerable trauma, either at home or in the hospital and are left feeling lost. It might take a bit of time to feel ready for counselling or the families might need immediate support, either way I am hoping to be of help.
My first session
We will meet for the first sesion which will be free and we can decide together what the goals of the work is and perhaps how long the sessions will last for. There will be a brief assessment at the start of the session.
