About me and my therapy practice
Hi. I’m Sam, a Person Centred Therapist and founder of Fiction Prescription, a specialist bibliotherapy practice exploring how your personal responses to the books you read can help you understand yourself more deeply.
Do books stay with you long after you’ve finished them? Have you ever recognised yourself in a character, found comfort in a story, or felt unexpectedly moved by something you’ve read?
You've come to the right place.
Many people experience literature emotionally before they can explain why. Sometimes stories help us approach feelings that are difficult to reach directly. Therapy can offer a space to explore those responses in confidence, thoughtfully and without judgement.
Whether you've had a lot of therapy or are completely new to it, approaching your emotions 'sideways' through the situations and characters you meet in books can offer a refreshing and often surprising way to know yourself differently and see your challenges and relationships more clearly.
Sessions take place online, allowing you to attend from wherever feels most comfortable for you.
Practice description
My approach is warm, collaborative and Person Centred.
There is no academic analysis or 'right way' to read - the focus is always on your experience of the books you read, your feelings and any personal meaning the characters and story might hold for you.
Above all, I aim to create a space where you feel heard, accepted and able to explore whatever you bring at your own pace.
Clients have described their experience as:
“Cathartic, eye-opening and unexpectedly moving.”
“A gift of time, attention and thoughtful reflection.”
My Experience and Background
As an experienced Person Centred Therapist I've worked in schools and pupil referral units, and as the Adolescent Psychotherapist in a specialist Psychiatric Inpatient Unit.
As a core member of a university therapy team I was instrumental in delivering new opportunities for young adults to access therapy, including developing a Single Session Therapy model that reduced waiting times. I also developed and delivered a bibliotherapy service.
How I Work
Sessions last for 60 minutes and take place online via GoogleMeet.
All sessions are bookable through my website. These include:
* Single Session Bibliotherapy, bookable one at a time
* Blocks of Bibliotherapy sessions booked at intervals to suit you.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have. I'd love to hear from you!
My first session
I offer a free 20 minute introductory/discovery session online.
This is simply a chance for us to meet, talk about what brings you to therapy and explore whether bibliotherapy feels a good fit for you. There is no pressure or obligation to book a further session.
