About me and my therapy practice

People seek therapy for many different reasons. Some have a clear understanding of why they feel the way they do, while others simply know that something doesn't feel right or that they have become stuck. They may find themselves repeating the same patterns, feeling overwhelmed, or struggling in ways that don't seem to make sense.

My approach is based on the understanding that these experiences are often meaningful rather than signs that something is wrong with you. Whether your difficulties relate to anxiety, low mood, loss, relationships, trauma or dissociation, they usually developed for understandable reasons. A diagnosis can sometimes be helpful, but it is not needed to access therapy. My focus is not on trying to "fix" who you are, but on making sense of what has shaped your experiences and helping to process what continues to keep you stuck, creating the opportunity for meaningful and lasting change.

I am an accredited counsellor and psychotherapist with a particular interest in trauma, attachment and dissociation. Alongside my core psychotherapy training, I have undertaken further training in trauma and attachment-focused processing therapies, including Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR). This allows me to integrate different approaches when they best meet your needs, rather than relying on a single model.

Practice description

Even when people have similar experiences, or grow up in the same household, the meaning those experiences hold, how they are understood and processed, and the effects they have can be very different. Because every person brings their own experiences, strengths, and ways of understanding and responding to life, I believe therapy should reflect the individual.

My practice is grounded in humanistic psychotherapy, placing importance on understanding your unique experiences, building trust, and working collaboratively towards your goals. Where appropriate, EMDR and Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR) can be integrated into our work to support your individual needs.

Talking, reflecting and developing insight can all be valuable parts of therapy.

However, there are times when we know something to be true, yet deep down it still doesn't feel that way. We may know we are safe, good enough, or that the past is no longer happening, yet continue to feel and believe otherwise.

When this happens, EMDR or DBR may help us work with what continues to keep you stuck, creating the opportunity for deeper and more lasting change.

I work with a wide range of emotional and psychological difficulties, with particular interests in trauma, attachment and dissociation. This includes PTSD, difficulties often associated with BPD (also known as EUPD), and dissociative experiences, including different self states.

My focus is on understanding you as an individual, the experiences that have shaped you, and what continues to keep you stuck. Whether your difficulties stem from a single overwhelming event or experiences that have developed over many years, therapy is always guided by your needs, your pace and your readiness.

Together, we build a clearer picture of what is maintaining your difficulties and decide which approach is likely to be most helpful. My aim is to help you move beyond simply coping towards living with greater freedom, choice and connection.

My first session

Starting therapy can feel like a big step, particularly if you've never had therapy before or if previous experiences haven't been as helpful as you'd hoped. You don't need to arrive knowing exactly what to say, what the problem is, or even where to begin. We can work that out together.

Our first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and begin building a picture of what has brought you to therapy. There is no expectation to tell your whole story or talk about anything before you feel ready. We will work at a pace that feels manageable for you.

As well as exploring what you hope to gain from therapy, you are welcome to ask any questions about how I work or the different approaches I use. By the end of the session, we should both have a clearer understanding of your difficulties and whether we feel we are the right fit to work together.

If we decide to continue, we can think together about the most appropriate way forward, at a pace that feels right for you. This is not always clear from the outset, and it is often through working together that a clearer picture emerges of what is needed and which approach is likely to be most helpful.
