About me and my therapy practice
I am BACP registered integrative therapist, with 12 years + experience as a practitioner. I specialise in working in the outdoors, offering walk & talk therapy.
Perhaps you are seeking counselling for one of the following reasons, such as traumatic life events, internal struggles, making sense of experiences in earlier life, finding a way through challenging life changes, or develop coping strategies to navigate stressful living in the 21st century. I will offer you a safe and confidential space to support you in making sense of your feelings, thoughts and experiences.
In the same way that indoor therapy offers a space where we explore aspects of our own nature, so the outdoors can offer an alternative space in nature, where we might feel more in tune with this process. Typically, outdoor therapy can take place in such spaces as urban parks and gardens, to country parks, woodlands, hills and vales and sometimes on beaches.
The same work that you might bring to work through in an indoor space can also be explored in the outdoors and working in this way offers not only the benefits of being in nature, but also we work with our responses to nature and the shape and feel of the landscape that we’re walking through or sitting in. Working in this way insights arise into the nature of past or current experiences and relationships.
The first few sessions take place online and when we're ready to take sessions outdoors, we agree a meeting place. The routes unfold in a variety of ways, ranging from a gentle walk, talk, sit and so on, with various walk and talk routes initially selected by me as appropriate, with different routes picked from a selection by the client as sessions progress. Practice description
I work with a range of experiences and concerns including: anxiety, low mood, relational trauma, bereavement, work pressures, life changes, identity, personal growth, relationship issues and relationship with nature.
In our sessions, I will use all my training, experience and ongoing study to work with you towards an understanding of the concerns that bring you to therapy. I will use a whole body approach to listening in a deep, accepting way and use my skills in person centred therapy, combined with my training and experience in mindful self-compassion, Parts Approach (IFS), TA, CBT, neuroscience and ecotherapy to work with you and help you to reach your goals.
I have worked in a range of counselling settings including: Rape and Sexual Abuse and Complex Trauma; Bereavement; Outdoor Activity Programs; Private Practice; and Modern Slavery and Trafficking. As an integrative therapist, I work on the basis that different people will need support in different ways at different times and I enjoy working with clients in ways that will support this.
My first session
I offer an initial 20min telephone call during which I hope to begin to gain an understanding of what is bringing you to therapy and to gain a sense of whether my way of working will feel like a good fit for you. In this initial telephone call, I’m happy to answer any questions you might have about me, my qualifications and experience and also about how we might work together.
The first few sessions are remote (via MS Teams). In these first sessions, we will be able to get a more comprehensive understanding of the difficulties you are bringing to work through in therapy and to agree on a collaborative plan for taking our work into the outdoors together.
