About me and my therapy practice

I have successfully counselled a wide range of people from all walks of life and different backgrounds.

I have experience of working with my clients on issues that include:

Stress at work, post traumatic stress, bereavement and loss, physical sexual/psychological emotional financial spiritual and other forms of abuse, lack of assertiveness, emotional distress, anxiety, depression, addiction, bullying, relationship and family issues, loneliness and help finding new relationships.

I currently manage my own practice with associate trainees and fully qualified counsellors. My main focus during the therapeutic process is the here and now, the client's thoughts feelings emotions and experience. I work using a Person Centred experiential approach while integrating aspects of other theories when relevant. To help each person work towards their potential I incorporate the values of my core beliefs as a Counsellor. These are to value and respect the client with unconditional positive regard, to be congruent and authentic whilst facilitating a compassionate and empathic process.

Practice description

The purpose of counselling is to help the client explore their thoughts feelings emotions and behaviours to help them decide the most appropriate way to resolve issues and difficulties that impact their health and wellbeing

During the assessment stage client and counsellor will mutually agree the time/dates and costs for counselling sessions.

Each session will last 50 minutes.

Both counsellor and client will decide how many sessions initially may be needed and agree a time to review.

*In the event of cancellation at least 24hr notice must be given. This will give other clients the opportunity for an appointment.

Confidentiality

Counselling involves a ‘1-2-1’ professional relationship between each party. During this time matters of a personal nature are often disclose by the client. The content of the counselling sessions are strictly confidential and as such confidentiality will only be broken after every effort has been made to seek the client's consent or if consent cannot be obtained due to legal matters.

Supervision: the client will not be fully identified.

The BACP code of ethics and Counselling practice requires that all counsellors receive supervision.

My first session

In the first session we will complete a brief assessment to understand what past history is relevant and to get a sense of what the client wants to achieve by attending counselling. The first session offers time for the client to ask questions about the process and to settle in.
