About me and my therapy practice
As an Accredited Children and Young people's counsellor. I have vast experience in working with 7-25year olds. I work either Person Centred or Integrative within my counselling practice.
As a counsellor I work with young people whose constant worry is turning into a daily panic. it is important to provide a safe place for the client to engage in their counselling. We will look at your thoughts, habits and relationships to understand what's keeping you stuck. Building a professional relationship of trust will help you to understand the route causes of your problems and learn to understand yourself better. There is a commitment on you to be able to work on yourself. There is no quick fixes to the counselling process.
You may feel constantly on edge and exhausted trying to keep life together. We can work together to identify the emotional triggers some difficult feelings and thoughts which you struggle to control. Through very patient work with the counsellor it will be possible to manage your moods and assess if your self expectations are realistic. You may still face challenges but will be able to respond with more calm and confidence.
Sometimes using creative resources can help clients express and work through their thought's and feelings if they are unable to express issues verbally.
Practice description
My practice can take place in schools colleges and private counselling establishments. I ask the client to agree to giving me 24 hrs notice if they need to cancel a session. Late cancellations and missed appointments will count as a planned session . It may result in the service being withdrawn.
I agree to contact the client within 24 hrs if a session needs cancelling.
The Confidentiality Policy and procedure will be explained to the client during the first counselling session as part of the working contract.
The client agrees that any notes taken from our sessions will be part of the counselling process. They will be kept securely for up to 7 yrs post the age of 18. The client has every right to access any personal information held by the counsellor.
The client has the right to withdraw their child or themselves from counselling agreeing to talk it through with the counsellor wherever possible so that endings are managed appropriately.
Payments for each session will be paid as soon as possible into the counsellors bank account after each session.
My first session
My first session involves clients completing an Initial Assessment to help us understand the issues they are struggling with. It also helps to identify clients personal expectations of counselling.
It is also helpful to the counsellor to understand the clients personal history. The Assessment includes assessing client's risks to both physical and mental health.
It is important to gain as much detail as possible in the Initial Assessment to identify deeper issues that need focus during the counselling. A short questionnaire will help clients to state their level of issues in areas of concern to them.
The Initial Assessment is important in assessing if the client is suitable for counselling or if they need to be referred to another agency offering more specialist support in dealing with their needs.
I do not offer a different hourly rate from £40 for the first session which lasts for 50 minutes.
