About me and my therapy practice
I am a BACP registered, trauma-informed integrative counsellor specialising in working with complex trauma and PTSD, anxiety disorders, depression and traumatic grief. If you are struggling to cope, do get in touch.
What to expect from counselling
It’s normal to feel nervous about seeking counselling for the first time. However, rest assured that taking that first step in coming to therapy allows you to talk about the issues that you are struggling with in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space.
Counselling offers a unique opportunity for you to be deeply heard, understood and validated in times of difficulty. This may involve slowing down to notice what is going on for you in that moment. At other times it may mean gently challenging your thoughts or experimenting with new ways of being and relating in the world.
My offer to you
• A warm, safe, confidential space where you can explore your difficulties openly.
• A professional and genuine relationship with me to facilitate reflection, self-awareness and growth.
• Flexibility to help you find ways to improve your well-being, confidence and sense of calm.
I will work alongside you at your own pace, supporting you to draw on your strengths and resources, helping you to feel more connected to your life in a meaningful way.
Practice description
My therapeutic work utilises a trauma-informed and strengths-based approach. A trauma informed approach is a holistic view of each individual, taking into consideration each person’s unique way of being in the world, including personal beliefs and identity, health and wellbeing, childhood experiences, family upbringing, interpersonal relationships, social networks and cultural factors.
A strengths-based approach focuses on positive emotions, strengths, resilience, and overall functional well-being.
Below I have outlined some of my counselling approaches. Do get in touch if you would like more information.
• Mindfulness skills teach us to become aware of and then step back from distressing thoughts and feelings, allowing space to be fully present with each moment.
• Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) teaches us to recognise and break the vicious cycle of unhelpful thoughts and habits that maintain low mood and anxiety.
• Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) helps us to draw on our innate capacity for self-compassion by developing a relationship with our Compassionate Self, helping to resolve feelings of guilt and shame that are often internalised in childhood trauma.
• Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) can help you to come to terms with the challenges in your life and identify your values and what is meaningful to you.
• Interpersonal Therapy is a NICE recommended therapy for relationship difficulties. Please note: this is not couples therapy.
• Behavioural Activation (BA) can help to reduce low mood by gradually incorporating activities that help to restore feelings of motivation and enjoyment.
• Internal Family Systems (IFS) sees each person as possessing an internal family of ‘parts’. As we can gain understanding of each part this can help us move towards wholeness in recovery.
My first session
One of the most important aspects of counselling is the relationship between counsellor and client. The therapeutic relationship is central to your recovery. This is why it is so important to find a therapist you can trust and feel comfortable with.
FREE Introductory Chat
I offer a FREE introductory 15-20 minute chat, either online or by phone, so that you can learn a bit more about me and my approach. You can tell me a little about your reasons for seeking counselling at this time. You can also ask questions to help you decide whether I am the right therapist for you.
You don't need to make any commitments and there is absolutely no pressure to book sessions unless it feels right for you.
Sessions are charged at £55 (online).
NB: I am temporarily only offering therapy online.
