About me and my therapy practice
I am a BACP accredited Counsellor with several years' experience in counselling for different organisations and working in private practice.
I originally trained in Psychodynamics and attended many hours of continuous Professional Development in CBT. My knowledge of Psychodynamics has enabled me to help clients work through childhood difficulties and relationship problems. My knowledge of CBT techniques has enabled me to offer clients a different perspective and help them to cope and function better.
I am happy to provide a listening ear if clients just need to talk rather than looking for solutions. Sometimes talking out loud to an impartial practitioner can help to process your own material.
I am open, warm and appreciate diversity and always prioritise individual clients' needs. I work in collaboration and encourage clients' feedback as work progresses within a safe and empathetic space.
I offer a non judgmental approach encouraging client's autonomy. I recognise your experience is different from others' and unique. I have integrity and wisdom.
I adhere to BACP Ethical Framework and Professional standards. I believe in the importance of putting the client first but also making sure I have the relevant and appropriate training to help clients. I respect individual and cultural differences. I strive to be honest with clients if I feel they might benefit from being referred on.
Voluntary work:
I trained with the Samaritans,
Victims Support for burglaries, physical and sexual assault.
Emotional and practical support to elderly patients at Brookfields Hospital, Cambridge.
Training:
The Cogwheel Trust for 12 years in general counselling;
Centre 33 with young people.
Cruse Bereavement Cambridge.
Practice description
My approach is mainly based on Psychodynamics and CBT. However, as I have attended seminars in ACT and Positive Psychology and Solution focused Therapy, I tend to be integrative in my approach.
I will be taking notes during our sessions. These are kept in my office under lock and key. I am registered with ICO for Data Protection. Any information I keep about you will be treated and stored in the strictest confidence. As a member of BACP I am required to keep accurate and appropriates notes of our work together.
My first session
The first session is always an assessment of your mental and physical health so as to give me an overview of where you are at the start of counselling. I will be interested in any medication you may be taking, your contacts with your GP or other mental health practitioners in the past to get a better understanding of your mental health history.
I will explain confidentiality limitations as in the case of suicidal thoughts or potential harm to others.
We will agree on the frequency and duration of your sessions and fees. I do not charge for cancellations.
