About me and my therapy practice

I am a professionally qualified BACP accredited therapist with almost 25 years experience of working with children, young people, adults and families.

I offer a safe, confidential, non-judgemental counselling service for young people and adults. I aim to explore issues and your presenting problems and help you find new ways to live your life more effectively.

In addition to working with people experiencing anxiety, depression, bereavement and loss, my practice is trauma informed and I have experience of working with Childhood Sexual Abuse, as well as physical, emotional and neglect in childhood. I am also experienced in working with people who have suffered trauma; including those with suicidal thoughts and self-harm.

Practice description

Within my practice, I offer a warm and welcoming space where we can build a trusting and respectful therapeutic relationship where there is no judgement on whatever you bring to counselling.

My approach to counselling is integrative which means the type of counselling I offer is completely tailored depending on your needs and preference. This could be CBT, Trauma Informed Therapy, Psychodynamic but will always be person centred.

My integrative approach allows me to work collaboratively with you to enable you to make the changes you would like to see in your life. Many people find that one of the most helpful things about counselling is being able to speak to someone who will attentively listen without judgement in a safe and compassionate manner.

I value individual differences and see the collaborative counselling relationship as central to understanding and empowering individuals to find a way forward and manage their current situation more effectively.

I welcome clients from all backgrounds and offer a warm, supportive and flexible approach that best meets your needs.

My first session

I offer an initial 15 minute free telephone consultation and then if you feel it is right for you, we will then arrange an initial consultation.

The initial consultation session is where we can begin to get to know each other where you can share some of the reasons why you have chosen to seek help what you can expect from the counselling process. At this stage, we will establish a short counselling contract, which includes the length of session, dates, times, frequency, confidentiality, fees and my cancellation policy.

About me and my therapy practice

Since qualifying as an Integrative Counsellor in 2003  and Clinical Supervisor in 2014 I have worked with children, young people, adults and family support systems.

I have experience of Supervising both students and experienced counsellors. I offer supervision to anyone working in the caring, pastoral, and professional sectors.

I’m an accredited member or the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I work in accordance with their ethical guidelines and professional standards for practice.

Practice description

I use Hawkins and Shohet's Seven-Eyed Model of Supervision as my supervision framework, but also integrate elements of Page and Wosket's Cyclical Model of Supervision.

Clinical Supervision is about the practitioner first and foremost. Supervision enables practitioners to gain perspective by working through your client workload. I offer a safe, supportive environment where you can explore your client work using a range of theoretical models and I also provide an environment that is essential to personal and professional growth and development.

My priority is in maintaining the quality, safety and confidentiality of the supervisory relationship and to support you as a practitioner to model  your practice and adhere to the BACP ethical framework.

My first session

Our first session will be spent going through our supervision contract to ensure that we are aware of expectations, roles and boundaries.  It is imperative that the therapist feels a connection with me, as a Supervisor, which I include in my contract and three month review to ensure I am meeting the therapists needs.
