About me and my therapy practice

Dr Jane Hunt

I am a highly experienced integrative counsellor working in West London, where I offer counselling for individuals and couples.

I initially trained as a counsellor at Durham University over twenty-five years ago, graduating in 1997. Since then I have gained substantial experience and have worked as a counsellor in further and higher education, private practice, the voluntary sector, and the NHS.

For 19 years, alongside work as a counselling practitioner, I’ve also been involved with the delivery of counselling and psychotherapy training at a senior level in the profession in the UK. I have been a Faculty Head and Director of several counselling training programmes in the HE sector. I am currently a Senior Lecturer and Programme Director for an MSc in Integrative counselling and psychotherapy.

I am an LGBTQI affirmative practitioner and have experience of working with individuals and couples exploring gender identity.

In addition, I hold an MA in Psychology of Religion from the University of London, with research interests and practical expertise in the area of spirituality and counselling.

I therefore have considerable experience of working with a range of generic issues including anxiety, depression, bereavement and loss; as well as specific expertise and experience in the areas of sexuality, gender identity, relationships, religion, and spirituality.

Practice description

My work is underpinned by a relational therapeutic framework, informed by person-centred, psychodynamic, and cognitive analtic approaches, with a recognition that personal distress arises from a range of personal, social, and political contexts. I offer a confidential and supportive space for you to explore what is causing you distress and to consider ways we can work together to alleviate your concerns.

I offer short term and longer term counselling to individuals and couples.

My first session

Seeking therapy can feel very daunting, and in our first session we will explore together, in a non-judgemental confidential space, the reasons you are seeking help, and whether working with me is the best way forward for you. If we feel that work with me is not right for you, we can look at other possibilities relevant to your specific situation and needs. Meeting for an initial therapy session does not commit you to longer term therapeutic work with me.
