About me and my therapy practice
I originally undertook over 10 years counselling with Women's Aid, helping and supporting women who have been subject to domestic violence (physical and emotional abuse) and childhood sexual abuse. I now work in private practice and see clients of all genders.
I also have a passion to support mental health in the workplace, I deliver workshops and webinars covering all aspects of mental health, as well as training other counsellors in more specialised areas such as domestic abuse and the menopause.
I also have a deep interest in the "mind/body" connection and how our thoughts, feelings and emotions can affect our physical health and wellbeing. At the first session I will take a short consultation and together we can set a plan of the goals you wish to achieve from your counselling. I originally trained as an integrative counsellor, which means that I adapt my sessions to suit a client's individual needs, in order to achieve the best outcome possible.
Sessions are of one hour duration and each session fee is £60, payable 24 hours before the appointment..
My working hours are Tuesday to Friday. My first appointment is 09:30 am and my last appointment is 5.30 pm. I do not work week-ends.
I have a private therapy room at the rear of my home, which is totally private, and I have endeavoured to create a calming, comfortable environment. There is always fresh filtered water available.
If location is an issue, I am also able to offer sessions via online (i.e. Zoom/Teams) or telephone. It may be that some clients may feel more comfortable having their sessions from the comfort of their own homes. If a client is unable to attend a face to face session for any reason, then online may provide a suitable option.
Practice description
I was originally trained as an 'integrative' counsellor, which basically means I cover a wide range of different counselling styles. I endeavour to tailor my work to meet the client's needs . Often clients have a certain impression of what counselling will be like and I hope to dispel some of the common beliefs that may exist. My goal is to provide a warm, non judgemental environment where the client will feel comfortable and at ease to talk. I love to share any supporting information with clients, to enable them to maximise the benefits of the sessions, to help them with their own personal development. Choosing the right counsellor is vital, and therefore I always encourage my clients to come along for an initial consultation and session, and then decide if it's right for them. It is important for a good therapeutic connection between client and counsellor.
My first session
My first session is one hour and will consist of a short consultation being taken - I am GDPR registered and any information will be stored on accordance with GDPR regulations, and this will be covered at your first session. We will also complete a client agreement form which we both sign.
Any handwritten notes will be kept in a secure locked cabinet. Notes are uploaded on to a secure portal. You will not be contacted by phone or email unless permission is given, and this will only be in relation to your appointments etc.
