About me and my therapy practice

Welcome, thank you for arriving on my page.

I am a Counsellor/Psychotherapist cis female, half Egyptian, with interests in creative practice, and the nature world. Nature is incorporated into sessions as I hold and acknowledge your genuine being or wildness. I meet with individuals, couples, young people, families and groups. Sessions are held either in the counselling room, online, or by phone; and delivered as creative expression, or walking/sitting outdoors.

Regardless of where we meet, and how you express, it's my responsibility to create a relationship that feels safe, accepting, and understanding. The space will be as unique as you are, because it is also shaped by you. Moreover, you live within a context, which I shall fully acknowledge. Including but not limited to, your culture, workplace, family and areas of discrimination and disempowerment.

The therapeutic relationship and climate can illuminate, shedding light on your your emotions, personal relationships, situation, and facilitate discovery of aspects of you. Including contradicting parts and default positions.... 'if you can't identify the hurdles, and your powers how do you navigate'?

This embodied person-centred approach, ultimately means I strive to return control to you, as such my position within the relationship isn’t to advise, rather it's to create a therapeutic container that can help you feel safe, understood and welcomed. Potentially aiding long-term change by fostering continued self-understanding and deeper connection to self.

Practice description

Regardless of location, or expression; I am vested in your direction and promotion of authenticity, as well simply, yet powerfully, being a companion for where you are.

Who & how long

I meet with individuals, couples, young people, families and groups. Individual sessions are 50-min, couples/more than 1, duration, 90-mins. Sessions are face-to-face, outdoors, or remote.

Outdoors

If you have restricted mobility, we can meet at an agreed outdoor location, or walk and talk along the wooded pathways towards the shoreline.

Creative

I can also facilitate more of a creative expression of meaning through arts and sand tray.

Experience

The counselling profession and I aligned in 2011, since then I have gained experience in charities, education and private practice. I also teach and work as a supervisor. I am attachment and trauma informed, educated in polyvagal yoga and ecotherapy, plus training in EMDR.

I partake in continued professional development (CPD) to revisit and learn more on client characteristics and concerns. I work to take myself out of my own bubble in order to meet what I am not aware of. This includes, but isn’t limited to understanding the impact of social deprivation, differing abilities, neo-conventional family structures, and discrimination based upon race and ethnicity. Gender, Sexuality, Relationship, Diversity (GSRD) and Neurodivergence.

Please do let me know if any adjustments on Zoom, or in room are required - I will be happy to accommodate.

Every session, and every client will be different, "no man steps in the same river twice, for it is not the same river and he is not the same man”. Heraclitus.

My first session

The Initial Session

For individuals I offer an initial 30-minute session, in-room, or via phone or video link. For couples this is a full hour.

If sessions are scheduled in person, meeting in room can be helpful. The room is bright, yet cosy, located on the first floor of Hamble Memorial Hall. It offers a lift, parking, disabled toilets and disabled parking. If you need adjustments please say.

Regardless of the platform of communication it is your chance to see if therapy with me is something you'd like to pursue. It's also opportunity for you to explore what you'd like to achieve, as well, provide insight into how I work. The counselling agreement-contract, including the boundaries and limitations of the sessions are also explained. If we continue, we find a mutually agreeable time/day to meet, ideally on a regular basis.

Initial/assessment session

Face to face (initial) - £25 (30-minute)

ZOOM (initial) - free (30-minute)

Forward planning

Within the initial session, it can be helpful to discuss a realistic amount and frequency of sessions. Bear in mind that there is no normal, rather we establish whether what you present can be aligned to the number of sessions - as there maybe ethical implications. Although, following the opening of 'Pandora's Box' a re-assessment on the amount of sessions could be necessary. Meaning, without the veil that may have afforded protection, there maybe more to unpack.

When it isn't wise to continue

These include: If we have someone in common. You are currently experiencing something that in the present moment could be harmful for you to explore. If there is violence towards the partner you are seeking counselling with.  You want to be given tools to manage. I also cannot take responsibly for substance withdrawal, rather this is something that I can work alongside other professionals. Finally, major limits to my understanding – as such, it could be better to refer to a colleague more informed by lived experience, or another profession.
