About me and my therapy practice
Whether you are facing a particular difficulty or simply have a sense that something in your life or relationships is not quite right, counselling can offer time and space to understand what is happening and explore what you would like to change.
I work with adults and couples, offering face-to-face counselling in Plymouth and online counselling across the UK. I am a BACP-accredited counsellor and integrative psychotherapeutic counsellor, in practice since 2010 with more than 6,500 hours of counselling experience.
My approach is integrative rather than based on one fixed model. I draw on person-centred principles to build a strong therapeutic relationship, while also working actively and, where helpful, more challengingly. Counselling may involve exploring present difficulties, past experiences, recurring patterns, relationships, thoughts and feelings, or simply trying to make sense of something that has left you feeling stuck or uncertain.
I work with individuals experiencing difficulties including anxiety, stress, anger, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties and significant life changes.
I also work with couples experiencing recurring conflict, communication difficulties, infidelity or loss of trust, emotional distance, differences in needs or values, and situations where the relationship has begun to feel stuck. The aim is not to take sides, but to understand what is happening between you, recognise recurring patterns and consider what might need to change.
Practice description
Face-to-face sessions are held at Peverell Clinic, 202 Peverell Park Road, Plymouth PL3 4QE. I work from a quiet, private counselling room on the first floor. The rooms are accessed by stairs and there is currently no lift.
Parking is usually available on surrounding roads, and local bus services stop nearby.
I also offer online counselling across the UK via Zoom or WhatsApp. This can be useful if you live further afield, travel regularly, have difficulty accessing the premises, or simply prefer to meet from your own space.
I am also developing a growing collection of reflective PDF resources exploring themes such as communication, relationships, difficult conversations and personal patterns. These can be used independently or alongside counselling. They may also give you a sense of some of the questions and ideas that inform my therapeutic approach, and whether this feels like a good fit for you. The resources are available through the Resources section of my website.
I work with adults and couples, and counselling can be short- or longer-term depending on what brings you and what feels useful. Sessions provide a confidential space in which we can think together about what is happening, identify recurring patterns where relevant, and consider what you may want to change or understand more clearly.
My first session
Your first appointment is a full counselling session charged at the usual rate; I do not offer a separate free assessment session. It gives us time to explore what brings you to counselling, what you would like from it and whether working together feels right.
We will also discuss confidentiality and any practical arrangements, and you will have the opportunity to ask questions. You do not need to arrive with everything clearly worked out.
If you would like to ask a few questions before booking, I am happy to offer a brief introductory conversation without charge.
