About me and my therapy practice

BACP Registered  with nearly 30 years of experience with a specialism of working with teenagers and young adults.

The majority of my work is face to face and I provide both short and long term counselling to individuals . My original training was in Psychodynamic Counselling and Groupwork and over the years, I have incorporated elements of CBT and solution focused therapy. I think it is important to put clients at their ease and so endeavour to provide a calm and relaxed environment.

We all need some extra support at different times in our life and my role is to provide that support and help  you make sense of what is happening and find ways of managing your life more easily. Whilst there are no 'quick fixes', my aim is to help the client to feel more in control of their situation.

Practice description

I specialise in working with teenagers, (age 14+) and young adults but have extensive experience of working with older adults at any stage of their life. In addition to my private practice, I currently work as a Counsellor for adolescents and young adults with cancer, and their families in the NHS at Addenbrooke's Hospital. For 17 years, I was Director of a counselling  organisation  and since then, I have  worked as a counsellor in a secondary school and for 2 local counselling charities .

Anyone who comes to see me can expect a non-judgemental environment and a totally safe space. The fact that you are thinking about seeing a counsellor, tells me that you want things to be different, whatever that may mean for you. It's not my role to tell you what to do, but I may suggest options and above all, I want to help you to understand and explore what is going on.

Sessions can be open-ended or we can agree a certain number if you prefer and I will always review how the counselling is going on a regular basis.

Previous clients have said: " I was sceptical about seeing a counsellor but it turned out to be one of the best things I have done"

"It is a big help to just freely talk and feel really listened to; I've also gained tools to better cope with life's day- to- day challenges"
