About me and my therapy practice
Welcome! I am a BACP Accredited Therapist working with individuals, couples and families. I do not know what has brought you to look at my profile, but am guessing that you or someone close to you is: experiencing confusion, sadness, anxiety or fear; facing a dilemma or attempting to make a decision; struggling with problems in a relationship; dealing with illness or bereavement.
It can be challenging to deal with difficulties alone. My aim is to provide a safe place to talk openly, in confidence, about whatever is troubling you. My hope is that together we find a way to look differently at what you are going through and that you gain some relief from this.
I offer expertise gained from working with people experiencing difficult times: 20 years as a Social Worker in Adult Social Care, 19 years as a therapist. I worked for Relate for many years before starting my private practice as well as working in hospices, hospitals and the community with adults facing illness, disability and emotional distress. These experiences have provided me with a deep appreciation for the challenges people encounter and the resilience they discover in the face of these.
Practice description
Whether you’re feeling disconnected in your relationship, navigating family tensions or facing a life challenge that feels too heavy to carry alone, you don’t have to face it by yourself.
I draw on psychodynamic and systemic perspectives. This means that, should you wish to, I can help you to explore your childhood and relationships as well as the impact that the culture and society you live in has had on you.
Together, we can explore what’s happening beneath the surface and strengthen communication, rebuilding connection and understanding within yourself and with those around you. I can support you in making sense of emotions, thoughts and behaviour and develop self-awareness. I can help you understand recurring cycles, express needs more clearly and build mutual understanding rather than blame.
My approach is collaborative and compassionate and I aim to create a space where each person feels heard, valued and supported to make meaningful change.
If this resonates with you, I’d be glad to hear from you to discuss how we might work together. I offer a free 15 minute telephone or online call in which you can tell me details of your situation. This gives you the opportunity to see if I am the right fit for you and to ensure that I have the correct expertise to work with you.
My first session
The first meeting is slightly different to ongoing sessions as I ask more questions and am likely to take some notes. I do not ask you to complete an assessment.
The first meeting enables you to let me know more about your situation. We should have an idea by the end of the session whether you would benefit from shorter or longer term therapy and how often we will met. This is usually weekly to start with but does depend on your situation.
