About me and my therapy practice

Adult children of narcissistic parents often bear emotional scars that persist, even long after the abuse has ended. It’s understandable if relationships feel overwhelming, boundaries unclear, and your own needs unfamiliar. You could be facing difficulties with self-doubt, guilt, anxiety, or a persistent feeling of not being "good enough." I want you to know you're not alone, and it is possible to reclaim your voice, your peace, and your sense of self. This may be the moment you’ve decided it's time to break free from the past and begin living on your own terms.

I'm a qualified integrative counsellor specialising in supporting individuals who have experienced narcissistic abuse, whether within their family system or in other relationships, such as a current partner or friend. Using an integrative framework allows me to draw from a range of therapeutic approaches (visit www.jaynetamsett.com for more information). It is trauma-informed, relational, and tailored to your unique journey.

We can gently explore your past, connect it to present patterns and build the tools you need to move forward with clarity and strength. Our work together creates a nurturing environment where your story is honoured, your feelings are valid, and your healing is prioritised. Whether you're just beginning to untangle the effects of narcissistic parenting, or you've been working on it for a while and feel stuck, I'm here to walk alongside you.

I am qualified in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing), an evidence-based therapy that can help you process and recover from distressing or traumatic experiences. After successful treatment, troubling memories from the past and distressing issues in your current life will lose their emotional intensity. This will leave you feeling more present and free to engage fully in your daily life. EMDR works exactly the same online as face to face (visit www.jaynetamsett.com for more information).

Practice description

I will hold a safe and confidential space for you to express what may have long been suppressed. I will help you to understand your coping mechanisms and work with you at a pace that feels manageable. Together, we’ll take time to reflect on what’s coming up for you. I will challenge when needed and provide tools and techniques to help you feel more empowered in your day-to-day life.

I provide short term counselling designed for those needing brief, focused support within a limited schedule or budget. I also offer longer term psychotherapy for complex and multiple difficulties.

As an accredited member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy), I am committed to maintaining high ethical standards and client safety. I am dedicated to ongoing learning and development to ensure I provide the best support for my clients. I attend regular supervision.

My first session

THERAPY VIA ZOOM VIDEO LINK

It is standard practice to have a few assessment sessions gathering information about your background and current situation. There will be no obligation for you to continue past this initial assessment stage, but it will give you an opportunity to decide whether you feel like I am the right therapist for you and that my skill set matches what you need in a counsellor.

I will discuss contracting at the beginning of the initial appointment which will include confidentiality, the limits, my membership with BACP and the different therapies I offer.

End of the assessment stage

I will explain exactly how I would be able to help you moving forward and consider your expectations and goals for therapy.

However, if I feel that I do not have the necessary expertise or experience, I will discuss this with you and make recommendations.
