About me and my therapy practice
I am an experienced, BACP-accredited psychodynamic counsellor, psychotherapist and supervisor, working with individuals and couples. My approach is thoughtful and grounded in the belief that developing a deeper understanding of ourselves can help us make sense of our feelings, relationships and experiences.
I offer a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space in which we can explore what may be troubling you, at a pace that feels right for you. Through our work together, we can begin to understand how past experiences and relationships may influence how you feel about yourself and relate to others in the present. I believe that being heard, understood and supported can help bring greater clarity, self-awareness and the possibility of change.
I aim to build a trusting therapeutic relationship in which you feel able to explore difficult feelings and experiences, develop a deeper understanding of yourself and consider new ways of relating to yourself and others.
Practice description
People come to counselling for many different reasons. You may be experiencing anxiety, low mood, difficulties in relationships, loss, significant life changes or a sense of feeling stuck or uncertain. Sometimes, there may be no single issue that brings you to counselling but rather a feeling that something is not quite right, or a wish to understand yourself more deeply.
Our past experiences and relationships can influence how we feel about ourselves and relate to others in the present. Through working together, we can explore these experiences and the feelings associated with them, developing greater self-awareness and understanding at a pace that feels manageable for you.
I aim to offer a thoughtful, respectful and non-judgemental therapeutic relationship in which you can feel heard and understood. My intention is to help you gain a clearer understanding of yourself and your difficulties, enabling you to consider new perspectives and possibilities for change.
I also bring considerable professional experience in leadership and management from previous positions. Alongside my therapeutic work, I am a qualified yoga teacher, which has further informed my appreciation of the relationship between body and mind and how our emotional experiences can be reflected in our physical wellbeing.
My preferred way of working is face-to-face in my private practice in the Epsom area. I offer an initial assessment to discuss what has brought you to counselling, what you hope to gain from the experience and whether working together feels right for you.
My first session
The first session is an initial assessment, costing £30. It provides an opportunity for us to talk about what has brought you to counselling and what is happening in your life at the present time.
We can reflect on some of your family history and earlier experiences. This can help me begin to understand you, your circumstances and the difficulties you may be experiencing.
It is also an opportunity for you to ask questions, share what you hope to gain from counselling and begin to get a sense of what it might be like for us to work together.
There is no expectation that you need to have everything worked out or know exactly where to begin. This is an opportunity where we can take time to consider what it might feel like for us to work together and whether this feels right for you.

About me and my therapy practice
Welcome to Oak Grange Counselling. My name is Michelle Hyams-Parish and I offer Counselling and Supervision from my practice based in Epsom, Surrey KT17.
I am a BACP Accredited counsellor coming from a Psychodynamic modality. I have attended an OCN level 6 course in Counselling Supervision and am able to work alongside qualified counsellors either individually or as a group.
I tend to follow the Hawkins and Shohet 7 eyed model approach which works well with most modalities.
As a Supervisor my aim is to work in a sensitive, collaborative, exploratory and creative way whilst maintaining a supportive, safe space where all aspects of the work might be considered and discussed authentically and with respect, whilst bearing in mind both effectiveness and accountability.
I am able to offer both online and face-to-face supervision.
Practice description
As an experienced, BACP accredited Psychodynamic Counsellor in a successful private practice I am able to offer the opportunity to explore supervision issues and support supervisees within a safe, comfortable and containing environment.
I aim to work from an empathic, trained perspective, creatively to develop a greater understanding together of what might be happening in the therapy.
As a member of the BACP I am committed to working to their ethical code and guidelines.
My first session
All initial, introductory sessions are offered at £30 for a 50 minute period.
In the first session together we can discuss what your background and situation in counselling is and how you might choose to work; for example either monthly (90 minutes) supervision or biweekly (50 minutes) supervision. There may also be the possibility of individual or shared Supervision sessions.
This initial assessment will give us the opportunity to discuss details about your current situation and offer some insight as to what it might be like for us to work together.
