About me and my therapy practice

I am a counsellor based in North Lincolnshire working in private practice with adults and young people. I work from my garden room at my home in the centre of Barton-Upon-Humber. As a counsellor, I aim to offer a friendly face, a confidential, warm, caring, safe space where you can just be you knowing you will not be judged.

My practice is rooted in the Person-Centred approach which means that I believe that the quality of the relationship between myself and my client is the key factor in helping you make better sense of your feelings and experiences and in helping you develop the internal resources to live the life that you wish to lead. My approach is relational and flexible but I may draw on a range of models and approaches from my training and experience which may help in understanding your emotional history, relationships, the issues you are experiencing and the ways in which they are impacting on your life.

I have several years experience working with adults providing counselling through the mental health charity MIND, as well as the NHS. I have also worked for Children’s Services in Fostering and Adoption, supporting young people leaving care and family support. I have completed further training in Life Story Work, and Attachment-based Practice. I like to draw on these skills and integrate narrative approaches into my practice. This helps a person engage more fully with their ability to reframe their experience and “re-write” their life story. I am passionate about trauma-informed practice and exploring ways for a person to make meaning of their experiences without labelling.

If you are struggling to cope with difficult emotions, stressful life events or relationships, or would benefit from some space to explore your issues and gain more understanding and insight into the cause of your distress - please get in touch to discuss how I can help.
