About me and my therapy practice

I am a qualified psychotherapist with a degree in Psychology and an MSc in Counselling Psychology. I have been working in the field of mental health since 1994, and qualified as a psychotherapist in 2006.

I am experienced in working with depression and anxiety, compulsive disorders, phobias, addictions, grief and loss, health issues, chronic / terminal illness, self esteem, eating disorders, anger management, relationships, sex and sexuality, neurodivergence, communication issues and work related issues. I I have comprehensive training in various disciplines such as Humanistic, Transactional Analysis, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Existential Philosophy. I use an integration of these approaches in my work seeking to offer the appropriate support to best match the needs of each client.

In practice, my approach is driven by building a relationship of trust and respect with my client, so they can feel safe to explore their presenting issues. Working at the pace governed by the client, together we examine their experiences to gain a better understanding and self awareness, considering alternative perspectives and behaviours.

Whilst I have learned so much about life from my client group, I continue with professional development and my further qualifications include an Advanced Certificate in Couples Therapy (accredited by NCIP) and a Post Graduate Qualification in Consultative Supervision. I also have additional training in Diversity and Inclusion, Mindfulness, Eating Disorders, Addiction and Trauma and Group Work.

You are able to ask questions and consider whether I am the counsellor for you. Similarly, if I feel I am not the best person to support your needs, I will refer on to a colleague or organisation with more specialised experience. This session will be either online or on the phone and will be free of charge.

About me and my therapy practice

I am passionate about supervision and see it as essential for not only counsellors but anyone working in a caring and supportive environment.

I have post graduate training in Supervision and experience of supervising in a variety of settings with counsellors and non counsellors alike.  Combining elements of Inskipp and Proctor's Functional Model and Shohet and Hawkins Seven Eyed Model as appropriate, I adapt my approach according to the needs of the supervisee

As with therapy, supervision offers a safe and non-judgmental space where you can reflect upon your work. Supervision not only safeguards the clients, but allows the therapist the time to consider their approach, learn from their experience and grow in knowledge and ability.

It gives us the opportunity to attend to our own well-being, thus ensuring that we don't burn out but continue to find our work fulfilling.

Like counselling supervision works best when there is mutual respect, and I come not as an expert but as a colleague.
