About me and my therapy practice

When a child or young person comes to see me, they and their family might be at their wits’ end, feeling lost, angry, fearful and out of control. They may feel misunderstood and alone, or that something is wrong with them. This can have a big impact on family, education and friendships.

I am a qualified counsellor (Fd Sc) with a background of over 30 years’ experience in mental health and schools. I hold a diploma in sand tray therapy and I am a qualified hospital play therapist. In addition to private practice I work in a primary school as a counsellor.

Building a trusting and safe relationship is at the heart of my work. I work creatively and integratively with clients. This means that I work with a variety of techniques to find the ones that will work best for you, depending on your thinking style and what you enjoy. The work I do with a client is as unique as the person themselves. I can offer you a confidential, safe space where together we will explore your feelings so that we can better understand the challenges you face. This may involve looking at how you are feeling and behaving in the present but also may explore events and feelings from the past which may be affecting you today.

I work in a trauma informed way and recognise that our past can affect us deeply. In addition to working with depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem, I have particular interests in:

• Autism, Asperger’s and ADHD

• Loss and bereavement

• Challenging behaviour including anger, attachment issues, and self-harm.

• Sexual orientation and gender identity

In our work together, we will be creating a toolkit of strategies to help you thrive. I believe therapy can aid healing by providing a therapeutic relationship which is non-judgemental, authentic and based on trust.

I have an enhanced DBS certificate, undertake regular supervision and abide by the ethical framework of BACP. Please not that I cannot offer therapy with multiple people from one family.
