About me and my therapy practice

Hello, I’m Lainy — and a warm welcome to you. Taking the first step towards healing takes real courage, and I want to honour that. You are the expert of your own story, and within you lie many strengths that can guide you towards the change and fulfilment you seek. My role is to support, empower, and walk alongside you on that journey.

For over two decades, I’ve dedicated my life to researching, teaching, and counselling in the field of emotional resilience. In that time, I’ve developed a powerful Emotional First Aid Kit — a proven framework that helps clients transform emotional pain into confidence, calm, and self-worth.

As the mental health spokesperson for BBC Radio Leicester and a registered member of the BACP since 2013, I’ve supported hundreds of clients in overcoming stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, and abuse. My focus is always to facilitate the right balance of healing, learning, empowerment, and joy.

I’ve worked with organisations including Leicestershire County Council, Relate, and Leicester City Council, delivering emotional resilience and mindfulness programmes to individuals and groups.

I offer one-to-one sessions face-to-face (office, walk, or home visit) and online or telephone sessions. For those who enjoy shared learning, I also run Personal Development Book Clubs and Meditation Classes — fun, informal groups that encourage connection and growth. Each includes a WhatsApp group to keep your learning supported between sessions.

In 2015, I wrote a children’s book, “Emotional Poo: Don’t Let It Stick to You!”, featuring my six-foot inflatable dinosaur, the Eatapoopasaurus — helping children playfully release emotional “poo” and learn that feelings don’t have to weigh them down.

Practice description

Talking to a counsellor can bring an enormous sense of relief. It gives you space to let off steam, express how you truly feel, and be heard — without fear of judgement, repercussions, or broken confidentiality. Together, we can unravel your thoughts and emotions, look at them with calmer, wiser eyes, and uncover solutions that may have previously been hidden.

Through our work, you can learn practical tools to replace negative thinking habits with positive ones, and discover how to prevent yourself from slipping into “dark places” — or find your way out of them more quickly when you do.

“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used to create them.” – Albert Einstein

I believe counselling is never “one size fits all.” I use an integrative approach, drawing from a range of therapies to create a flexible, tailored process shaped around your individual needs.

Personal empowerment often begins with changing how you think about yourself and the world around you. When you change your thinking, you truly can change your life. My role is to facilitate that growth — helping you gain insight, resilience, and confidence so you can move forward and maintain lasting change.

I aim to equip you with skills and strategies that help you manage life’s challenges with greater ease and control. We will go at your pace, and I can offer a wealth of extra resources — such as YouTube links, TED Talks, scientific articles, books, or apps — depending on what best suits your learning style. And if you’d rather keep things simple and focus on the present moment, that’s perfectly fine too. You choose how deep you want to go.

The right support can bring your life back into balance — helping you reconnect with yourself, strengthen your well-being, and move towards a calmer, more fulfilled way of living.

My first session

In our first session, I’ll take time to truly understand what you want from your healing journey. Together, we’ll explore your background, current challenges, and hopes for the future so I can tailor therapy specifically to your needs. I’ll listen carefully to what matters most to you — your goals, values, and the outcomes you wish to achieve — and use that to shape a therapeutic plan that feels personal, supportive, and effective.

We’ll also explore which setting feels most comfortable and supportive for you — whether that’s face-to-face in my office, a calming walk-and-talk session, online, or over the telephone. Each approach offers its own unique benefits, and you’re always free to change as your journey evolves.

We’ll also discuss confidentiality and your expectations of counselling, ensuring that you feel safe, respected, and fully informed. You’ll have the space to clarify what you want to focus on and to set meaningful, realistic goals that reflect your priorities.

Because everyone’s way of understanding and processing emotions is unique, I’ll ask about your preferences when it comes to therapeutic tools — whether you’re drawn to scientific approaches, spiritual perspectives, or a blend of both. This allows us to work in a way that aligns with your beliefs and learning style.

As a qualified mindfulness coach, I can also integrate mindfulness practices into our sessions where appropriate. These techniques can help you cultivate calm, awareness, and balance — reconnecting you to the present moment and enhancing emotional resilience.

If you’d like to learn more about how I work and what I can offer, please get in touch. I offer a free 20-minute initial consultation via video call, or telephone. This is a relaxed opportunity to ask questions, gain a sense of my approach, and see whether we’re the right fit to work together.

Therapy is a collaborative journey — and taking that first step could be the beginning of real and lasting change.
