About me and my therapy practice

Have you “stumbled” on a pebble in your life, people often blame their circumstances for what they are or for how their life has become………have the courage, determination and will to become the person you want to be, the person you believe you are meant to be.

As Oscar Wilde once said, “be yourself, everyone else is taken”.

I am a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor based in Epsom, Surrey.

I may be able to help you by offering the space and support required whilst managing your difficulties, circumstances or issues, as together we explore your thoughts and feelings that are creating the experiences or turmoil in your internal world.

When this happens you will find you have the time to reflect and understand yourself better, you will feel heard and listened to.

From here you will reach new understanding of yourself and/or of your situation which will enable you to view things in a different, more constructive light, as your perspective changes.

By restoring balance and regulation back into your life you can grow and evolve moving forwards in a more confident and positive way.

Sessions are offered in a safe, calm and tranquil setting whilst offering an environment which is confidential, open, empathetic, congruent (genuine) and non-judgemental warmth.

Counselling is about helping others giving them the guidance to understand themselves better and the tools to make change in their life.

Take your first steps today by calling me or dropping me an email.

Practice description

I use an integrative approach to counselling, which means I draw upon a number of theories and models to aid my work.

I may also use a solution-focused approach to my work. This is a goal-directed collaborative approach to psychotherapeutic change by addressing the desired outcome of therapy as a solution rather than focusing on the symptoms or issues that may have brought you to therapy.

This means I am interested in what is happening in the present and the future desires you have, just focusing on the past only to the degree necessary for communicating empathy and accurate understanding of your concerns. This is also known as “Brief Therapy” because results may be achieved fewer sessions.

If appropriate, I may work with the additional techniques of Neuro-linguistic Programming (NL), Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprogramming (EMDR).

For Counselling, I offer both face-to-face and non face-to-face sessions.

For non face-to-face counselling, I am able to offer both telephone support and remote video sessions.

I offer fee concessions for a certain number of sessions, to a limited number of clients.

Therapy is offered on both a short-term and long-term basis. Ultimately, the length or duration of therapy is up to you, for example you may seek 6 sessions or 40 sessions.

To practice as a Counsellor, I am a member of The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and am an accredited member of The National Counselling Society.  As a consequence, I abide by their relative Ethical Framework or Code Of Ethics.

I am fully insured for the disciplines I practice.

I’ve been fully checked by the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly Criminal Records Bureau).

I am fully committed to my on-going personal and spiritual development.

My first session

To engage in counselling, there would firstly be a rigorous telephone conversation, during which we would agree to meet for an introduction and initial consultation.

Making contact in this way helps to ascertain the suitability that we are able to work together.

During the initial consultation, or our first session, I will complete some forms to ask some general questions about you and your circumstances which will include details such as your health, personal history, relationships and your reasons for seeking therapy.   We will also speak about your goals therapy and what it  is you would like to achieve.  This gives us a base from which to being working from.

We will speak about the issue of confidentiality, and look at a Counselling Client - Therapist Agreement.

This all helps a decision as to whether we can move forwards together and to begin to build up a counselling relationship.

The initial consultation costs £33.

Each session thereafter is 50 minutes in duration and costs £58.
