About me and my therapy practice
With over 15 years’ experience as an accredited psychotherapist, I support people who feel stuck, overwhelmed or caught in patterns they want to change. I specialise in addiction, trauma—past and present—and depression, and also work with those affected by someone else’s addiction.
Therapy with me is warm, practical and non-judgmental. We’ll explore what’s going on beneath the surface, while finding practical ways to help you cope and move forward. My aim is to help you understand yourself better, make meaningful changes and feel more at ease and able to enjoy your life.
Practice description
Finding the right therapist is about finding someone you can be yourself with. I’m an active, engaged therapist and believe therapy should feel like a genuine conversation. I won’t simply sit back and listen—I’ll ask questions, share what I notice and gently challenge you when it may be helpful.
There’s no “right” way to be in therapy. You can bring whatever is going on in your life, including the things that feel difficult to say out loud. Some sessions may involve looking more deeply at experiences and relationships; others may focus on what you’re dealing with right now.
I value honesty, curiosity and humour when appropriate, and I want therapy to feel human rather than overly clinical. We’ll work at a pace that feels manageable, regularly checking that our work remains relevant to what you need
My first session
The first session is a chance for us to get to know each other and see whether working together feels right for you. There’s no need to prepare or know exactly where to begin—you can simply come as you are.
I’ll invite you to tell me what has brought you to therapy and what you’re hoping might change. We may talk about what’s happening in your life now, as well as some of the experiences, relationships or patterns that have shaped you. I’ll ask questions to help me understand the bigger picture, but you’re always in control of what you choose to share.
We’ll also think together about what you would like to get from therapy. You may have a very clear goal, or you may simply know that something doesn’t feel right. Both are completely fine. Part of our work can be figuring that out.
You’re welcome to ask me questions too. I want you to have a sense of how I work and whether you feel comfortable with me. Therapy is a collaborative process, and finding the right therapist matters.
By the end of the session, we’ll have a clearer idea of what you need and how we might work together. There’s no expectation that everything needs to be covered in one meeting—we’ll take things at a pace that feels right for you.
