About me and my therapy practice
Perhaps you are feeling anxious, low, overwhelmed, or stuck in patterns that no longer seem to help you? Even the first few sessions of therapy can create insight and change. I bring over 7 years of full-time experience to the therapy space and offer one-to-one counselling and psychotherapy for adults in a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental environment. I have a calm, thoughtful and curious approach to the work with particular experience in childhood trauma, loss, anxiety and depression and will support you toward a place of greater clarity, resilience, and well-being.
I work relationally, by which I mean that the work is about developing and deepening the relationship you have within your own self. It also refers to our therapeutic connection, through which I aim to allow you to feel safe enough to be real, curious and open to exploration.
Within the sessions I will listen attentively and respond actively, offering gentle challenge to help you understand and explore patterns that may be keeping you stuck. Together, we may choose to look at the ways your past experiences shape your present, and how change can become possible.
My approach is integrative and tailored to each client. While my core training is in Integrative Therapy, I draw upon Internal Family Systems (IFS), which supports compassionate exploration of the different parts of yourself. I may also incorporate Brainspotting, a focused approach for processing trauma and emotional pain. These modalities allow for deep work while respecting your pace, boundaries, and goals.
Whether you're struggling with anxiety, depression, your self concept or questions of neurodiversity, trauma, loss, relationship difficulties, or low self-esteem, therapy offers a space to make sense of what’s happening and begin moving toward a place of exploration and your own therapeutic goals. I bring experience, care, and a compassionate presence to our work together.
Practice description
I have worked with individual adults across a wide range of settings including the voluntary sector, employee assistance programmes and private practice. I offer both short- and long-term weekly therapy, depending on your needs.
I welcome clients facing a variety of challenges, including (but not limited to) anxiety, low mood, trauma, grief, relationship issues, and self-worth struggles.
Sessions are available in person from my private therapy room in central Barnstaple, or remotely via Zoom or phone. I offer a limited number of lower-fee spaces for people on reduced incomes. Please feel welcome to get in touch via email, text, or phone if you’d like to explore working together.
My core training/qualifications include:
CPCAB Level 5 Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling
CPCAB Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (BACP accredited course)
CPCAB Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies
CPCAB Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills
Additional qualifications include:
Brainspotting Phase 1 & 2 (Brainspotting UK)
IFS (Internal Family Systems) Level 1 training (IFS Institute)
Cruse Bereavement Care/Ascentis National Awarding Body: Awareness in Bereavement Care Foundation Course.
My first session
The initial assessment session is a gentle starting point for us to get to know each other and to explore whether working together feels right. It’s a space where you can get a feel for the safety and support the sessions offer and where we can begin to explore what has brought you to therapy. We’ll talk about how we might work together and what you hope to gain from the process. There is also space for any questions or concerns you may have. You will be invited to share, at your own pace, aspects of your current situation, background, and anything from your past that feels important.
