About me and my therapy practice
I am a qualified, experienced counsellor and psychodynamic therapist, offering one-to-one therapy online and in-person in Edinburgh.
I offer a therapeutic space where you can feel heard, be seen and find your voice.
My work is with adults, professional people and those who want to discover who they are, how they bring themselves to relationship(s) and find out what it means to create and live a meaningful life.
Training and qualifications
I trained in both the psychodynamic and person-centred approaches at the University of Edinburgh receiving a Postgraduate Diploma and Masters in Counselling (with distinction). The British Psychological Society has published my writing.
My own intensive personal therapy over the years offers invaluable insight into the change process and reminds me how painful personal growth can be at times.
I studied Psychology and Law, practising as a lawyer in South African, England and Scotland. Working for many years in law firms and large corporates at a senior level, has given me insight into inter-personal and organizational dynamics and workplace culture. These experiences enable me to meet people where they are and enrich the therapeutic work.
Before setting up my private therapy practice, I worked at the PF Counselling Service in Edinburgh for 5 years with adults of all ages and stages of life.
Practice description
Psychodynamic therapy is a talking therapy. It happens through the conversations between us in the context of a safe, empathic and understanding relationship.
We talk about anything you wish to bring; exploring how you see and experience yourself, your relationships with others and the world.
By connecting to yourself honestly and with a willingness to learn from your experience(s), the aim is that you will develop a more coherent and secure sense of self.
My first session
Starting therapy can be challenging.
For this reason I offer an initial assessment session, usually lasting about 60-90 minutes. This is a chance for us to meet, learn more about you, your hopes for therapy, and see if the way I work feels right for you - a good fit is important.
Therapeutic work aimed at personal growth tends to be long-term; it is more likely short-term where there is something specific to work on.
If we decide to work together, we will agree a time(s) to meet a least once a week.
