About me and my therapy practice

People seek counselling for a variety of reasons, and beginning therapy can be a courageous and meaningful step into exploring and working through difficulties causing anxiety, emotional pain or psychological distress. My approach is grounded in warmth, genuineness and acceptance to provide a safe, supportive and respectful space that is free from judgment. I aim to offer clients a more flexible and bespoke therapeutic experience, tailoring sessions to suit unique needs and circumstances, that fosters a journey of self-awareness, personal growth and healing. I welcome referrals from adults 18 years+.

Humanistic principles underpin my approach, prioritising the establishment of a trusting safe relationship, as without this in place, therapy is unlikely to be purposeful. Elements of psychodynamic, transactional analysis and cognitive behaviour theoretical concepts are thoughtfully integrated to create a tailored approach that is best suited to the unique needs, wishes and goals of every client.

I specialise in working with individuals with hidden disabilities and those living with chronic health conditions. I understand, through lived experience, how these challenges can affect emotional wellbeing, relationships and daily life. I work collaboratively, at each client's pace, to support the development of resilience, self-compassion and self-esteem.

My role is not to offer advice or solutions but to listen, empathise, encourage and empower you to make self-imposed decisions and positive change. Whilst I may not have magic wand, I can offer a "helping hand" to guide you through distressing times and accompany you on your journey of self-discovery. I can accommodate clients with disabilities.

Practice description

Human beings are unique and not all therapy approaches suit all people. I have been trained to use an integrative approach allowing me to tailor sessions to suit your specific needs and circumstances.

I am an Accredited Member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP Accred). I am also a Professional Accredited Member of the National Counselling Society (PNCPS Accred) and an Accredited Member of The Foundation for Infant Loss.

I have 10 years' experience of working within the field of mental health supporting adults and young people presenting with a broad range of psychological issues. I also have extensive bereavement counselling experience (pre and post loss) acquired through my voluntary work for a local hospice.

I specialise in working with people with hidden disabilities and chronic pain conditions, particularly Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome and Fibromyalgia. I have undertaken further training in Autism and ADHD, and my approach has been adapted to be neuro-affirming to accommodate those with additional needs.

My first session

Initial assessments can take place over the telephone or in person. Telephone consultations are free of charge for up to 30 minutes. Alternatively, a face-to-face initial assessment is offered at the fixed rate of £25 for up to 50 minutes. Both options provide an opportunity for you and me to discuss what is going on for you and how counselling may be beneficial.

Further sessions are charged at £40 per 50-60 minutes, however, I do have a limited number of concessionary rates available depending on financial circumstances. Fees will be discussed and agreed during the initial assessment.
