About me and my therapy practice

If you are considering therapy, it might be due to a rough patch that has turned your world upside down or a lingering feeling of being lost or stuck. You might be battling anxiety or depression, feeling the weight of old wounds in your current relationships and life, or sensing that life's just not what you thought it would be. These internal battles can be disorienting, making every day a little harder to face.

In therapy, we will work together to shine a light on the patterns you are tired of repeating, the thoughts that keep you awake at night, and the feelings that have no name yet. We will explore your inner world to help you create a more meaningful future. Sometimes it’s not the big emotions that are the issue, but the subtle ways we have been conditioned to deal with them—ways that might not be serving us well.

I have found that knowledge can really empower our personal journey. That’s why I have put together some easy-to-follow mini-courses to complement our therapy sessions. I invite you to check out the courses section at www.mentemira.com and start learning at your own pace.

Practice description

As a psychotherapist, I am guided by the principle that understanding our past and present shapes a more balanced future. My goal is to offer you a safe space where you can explore these connections, uncovering insights that lead to personal growth and fulfilment.

At the heart of my practice is a profound interest in fostering quality relationships, both with ourselves and with others. My special interest in trauma and attachment theory shapes the way I work, helping you understand how past relationships and experiences influence your current view of yourself and the world. I am experienced in navigating through issues related to anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, low confidence, abuse, and relationship and family difficulties.

My core training included person-centred, psychodynamic, CBT, along with existential approaches. I have done further training in ACT and EFT. While my practice is guided by psychodynamic principles, I embrace a pluralistic perspective—recognizing that multiple paths can lead to change and personal growth. To ensure that my practice remains current and effective, I continually engage in professional development and supervision

While I deeply value the power of active listening, I see therapy as a two-way street. I bring myself into our sessions, offering interpretations, reflections, and insights. We will work collaboratively, always checking in on how things are unfolding for you and adjusting our approach as needed.

I have spent a significant part of my career managing a counselling service at a charity in London, where I have had the chance to support many people while also supervising other therapists. Beyond this, I have been involved in educational settings, offering my skills in tutoring and research. I have also contributed to a domestic violence charity, helping those facing the impact of abuse. Throughout, my goal has always been to create a welcoming and inclusive space for everyone I work with.

About me and my therapy practice

Supervision is more than a professional requirement; it is a space for growth, reflection, and connection. I currently offer supervision to counsellors and psychotherapists, trainee counsellors, and those working in the helping professions. My goal is to create a nurturing environment that supports your unique development as a therapist, providing a space where you feel free to explore all aspects of your professional growth.

 Balancing Support and Challenge

Finding the right balance between feeling supported and being challenged is crucial in supervision. I am dedicated to providing a space where you feel understood and held, while also encouraging you to stretch and develop your skills. Together, we will focus on the restorative, normative, and formative aspects of supervision, helping you find the equilibrium that suits your developmental needs.

Experience

I bring a wealth of experience from my previous roles; I currently manage a counselling service in a charity, working extensively with early trauma, anxiety, depression, and supervising the work of counselling psychologists, psychotherapists, and counsellors. Although I have facilitated group supervision sessions and served as a skills practice tutor at the University of East London in the past, my current focus is on providing one-to-one supervision. My experience in essay marking has provided me with a solid foundation to support you through your accreditation applications and other professional milestones.

Practice description

Supervision through the 7-Eyed Model

In supervision, I utilize the 7-Eyed Model, much like adjusting a camera's focus to capture different facets of the therapeutic process. Together, we will explore:

Your Client’s World: Deepening your understanding of their experiences.

Your Interventions: Reflecting on the tools and methods you employ.

The Relationship between You and Your Client: Navigating the dynamics and transference.

Your Own Reactions and Feelings: Examining your responses and countertransference.

Our Supervisory Relationship: Building a strong connection and identifying any parallel processes.

My Reactions as Your Supervisor: Sharing my insights and perspective.

The Wider Context: Considering the broader influences that shape our work and your clients' world.

This comprehensive approach ensures you gain a well-rounded understanding of your practice, offering clarity and insight from various perspectives.

 My Counselling Practice

At the heart of my practice is a profound interest in fostering quality relationships, both with ourselves and with others. I am deeply committed to a trauma-informed and attachment-focused approach. My core training was pluralistic, encompassing person-centred, psychodynamic, CBT, and existential models of psychotherapy. My current practice is heavily influenced by psychodynamic principles, particularly attachment-based interventions, providing a rich background to support your development in these areas.

 Continuous Growth and Reflection

I am dedicated to continuous learning and professional development. I have completed an advanced certificate in clinical supervision and attended workshops, including those led by Robin Sohet. My commitment ensures that I am well-prepared to guide you on your supervisory journey. Regular reviews are an integral part of our work together, ensuring that your needs are continually met and providing you with the space to flourish as a practitioner.
