You may understand why you feel the way you do, yet still find yourself stuck in the same thoughts, feelings or patterns. Reaching out for help can feel daunting, particularly if you're used to dealing with things on your own.

Understanding why you feel or behave a certain way can be important, but insight alone doesn't always create change. My approach helps you understand what's underneath your difficulties and, importantly, turn that understanding into practical change in your everyday life.

"We keep talking about the same problems but nothing changes. Communication has become difficult, we've lost some of our closeness and old issues keep coming back. I don't feel heard or valued anymore, and I'm beginning to wonder how we move forward." S and D. Couples Therapy. London

"I don't always understand why I feel this way. I overthink, struggle with anxiety and find it difficult to switch off. Things from my past still affect me, and sometimes it feels as though I'm always waiting for something bad to happen." N. Individual Therapy. Age 35.

About me and my therapy practice

I'm an Accredited BACP Counsellor, Accredited Europe EMDR Therapist and Certified Couples/Marriage Therapist, with a background in psychology.

Individual Therapy

My approach is integrative, so I adapt therapy to you rather than expecting you to fit one particular method. I work warmly and practically with anxiety, depression, self-esteem, trauma, PTSD and relationship difficulties. I completed my Master's degree in Psychology with Distinction in 2009.

I've worked therapeutically with individuals since 2009 across NHS, Mind and private-practice settings. As an Accredited EMDR Therapist, I have conducted more than 4,000 EMDR and Attachment-EMDR sessions.

"You were kind and understanding. You challenged me with compassion and sensitivity. I always felt safe with you." - GF. London.

Couples/Marriage Therapy

I specialise in helping couples understand and change recurring patterns of conflict, distance and disconnection. My approach is informed by specialist training with Esther Perel, the Gottman Institute and the Couples Institute, including the Developmental Model of Couples Therapy.

A key part of my work is helping you stay connected to your partner without losing yourself in the relationship. This means being able to say what you need, feel or see differently, while still being able to listen to each other and stay emotionally close.

I help couples move away from the same repeated arguments and towards a relationship where both people feel more heard, understood and connected.

"I approached Tara because I felt exhausted and helpless in my marriage. In the first session, Tara introduced us to a new communication method (3 steps) that we had never encountered before. By the second session, we were already communicating more effectively. I felt deeply understood and acknowledged by my husband after a long time. Working with Tara has been invaluable, and her sessions have transformed our relationship completely." - SD and MM. In their 50s.

Practice description

Individual Therapy

I offer a warm, confidential and non-judgemental space where you can explore things at your own pace. I'll listen carefully, while also helping you recognise and change patterns that may be keeping you stuck.

"Past therapies left me feeling lost as they never addressed the root issues... Working with Tara changed that. I'm no longer controlled by the past. Tara gave me hope for the future." - J.P. London.

"Tara's guidance led to profound shifts in my life. With grace and compassion, we've addressed deep wounds. I always feel safe and seen in our sessions. Tara is a truly remarkable therapist and human being." - L.W. EMDR.

Couples Therapy

Couples can become trapped in the same arguments without understanding what's underneath them. I'll help you identify those patterns and address the root issues driving them.

I bring warmth and empathy while also being direct and practical. Our sessions have a clear focus, and we'll regularly review whether therapy is helping you make the changes you want.

I can help with:

Communication and recurring arguments

Conflict and parenting differences

Intimacy and differing sexual needs

Trust after betrayal or affairs

How past experiences, family and culture affect your relationship

"Tara's feedback was spot-on. Each session left us inspired and motivated for change." - P&N. In their 40s.

My first session

I offer a complimentary 15-minute video Zoom call before scheduling any sessions. During this meeting, we discuss your needs and establish a rapport. I address any questions you may have. If we both feel it's a good fit, we proceed with an assessment session.

Individual Therapy: What to Expect

In your initial session, we collaborate to devise your therapy plan, ensuring clarity on the counselling process and how we'll work toward your goals. We'll select from the following approaches or a combination, tailored to your needs:

Person-Centered

EMDR and Attachment EMDR

Parts Work (Internal Family System)

Psychodynamic (Attachment based)

Couples Therapy: What to Expect

While I offer empathy and understanding, I also provide honest observations, which may pose challenges. However, with time, I believe your painful patterns will shift with my guidance.

Our aim is typically six sessions followed by a review. Four sessions are typically couple-based, with the remaining two possibly including individual sessions for each party if therapeutically beneficial. You can end therapy at any stage, continuing past session six only if you see progress.

In our initial session, we explore the issues driving you to seek therapy. You'll start acquiring effective communication skills right from the start. In session two, we typically revisit the initial issue, but with a shift in focus towards the broader perspective (Big Picture) allowing you to identify the root of recurring patterns. The following two couples sessions are tailored to the progress we've made and your current needs. I may recommend tasks between sessions to strengthen these skills and confront old behavioural patterns. I will incorporate elements from Gottman, Esther perel training and Solution-focued model.

Types of therapy
