About me and my therapy practice

I'm a qualified therapist with a BA (Hons) in Counselling, and I am a registered member of the BACP. I work within the BACP Ethical Framework. I'm also currently training as a clinical supervisor.

I have around 10 years’ experience as a therapist, working across private practice, bereavement services, young adult counselling, and Place2Be, where I supported primary school children. Alongside my private practice, I am the Service Lead at a Bereavement counselling Service.

Reaching out for help can feel like a huge step. It can be hard to talk to family or friends about how you are really feeling, especially if you are worried about being judged, misunderstood, or feeling like a burden.

My approach is humanistic and relational. I respect and value each person as a unique individual, and I try to bring warmth, honesty and realness into the counselling relationship. I don’t see counselling as being about a therapist having all the answers. For me, it is about two human beings sitting together, making space for what feels difficult, confusing or painful.

I work with people experiencing a range of difficulties, including grief and loss, anxiety, low mood, relationship difficulties, life changes, family issues, and feeling stuck or overwhelmed. My work is about helping people understand themselves more deeply, explore their relationships, and find a way forward that feels right for them.

Alongside my counselling work, I offer supervision to counsellors and trainee counsellors as a trainee supervisor. I see supervision as a thoughtful, supportive space to reflect on client work, explore what may be happening in the relationship, and help counsellors feel more grounded and confident in their practice.

Practice description

Counselling can offer a steady space to slow things down, talk honestly, and begin to make sense of what you are feeling in your own way.

In sessions with me, we will start wherever you are. You don't need to come with everything worked out, or even know exactly what you want to say. Sometimes we might talk about what is happening in your life now, and other times we may find ourselves thinking about your earlier experiences, relationships, or patterns that keep coming up.

I'll listen carefully and may reflect back what I am hearing, ask questions, or gently notice things that feel important. I won't tell you what to do, but I will sit alongside you while we try to make sense of what is going on for you.

Sometimes having somewhere where you don't have to hold difficult feelings on your own can be helpful. My hope is to offer a therapeutic relationship where you can speak honestly, feel understood, and begin to find your own way forward.

All sessions are 50 minutes and start on the hour.

My first session

The first session is an introductory session and will be different from ongoing counselling sessions. It's is a chance to meet, talk through what has brought you to counselling, and think together about what you may be hoping for from the work.

This session will include an assessment, so I will ask more questions than I would in later sessions. This might include questions about what is happening for you now, your background, any support you already have in place, and anything important around risk, safety or confidentiality.

It is also a chance for you to get a sense of how I work and to ask any questions you may have. We can then decide together whether it feels like we are a good fit.

Sessions after this are less directive and more led by you, working at your pace and with whatever feels most important to bring.
