About me and my therapy practice
When life changes, you can lose your sense of who you are and where you're going.
Perhaps you're facing a major life transition, questioning the life you've built, or finding that things no longer feel as good as they once did. You might be struggling with uncertainty, anxiety or difficult feelings, or simply know that something needs to change.
I'm Jessica, a person-centred counsellor offering online therapy to adults. I work with people navigating change, whether it's something you've chosen, something life has brought you, or a change you never wanted.
Life transitions can affect our identity, our relationships and the way we see ourselves. Sometimes we know what needs to change but feel unable to take the next step. Or we may not know what we want, only that our old ways of living no longer fit. And at other times, change happens to us, forcing us to manage things as best we can.
You don't have to arrive at counselling with everything worked out. I think counselling works two ways: firstly when we talk about the things that have been troubling us, hearing them out loud can give us new insights and understandings.
Secondly, there is something magical and healing about the counselling relationship. Your counselling session is a place where you are fully heard and accepted. Experiencing this gives you a freedom from judgments, expectations and agendas – a freedom to find and become your best self.
If you're wondering whether counselling might help, we can begin with a free 15-minute Zoom conversation. It's an opportunity to ask questions and get a sense of whether working together feels right for you.
Practice description
I work exclusively online, which means you can attend sessions from a place where you feel comfortable. I offer flexible appointment times Monday to Thursday, between 9am and 9pm.
I have been working exclusively online since March 2020, when I re-trained, and committed to working online. The benefits for you include that you can be in a place that you choose, somewhere safe and comfortable, with no worries about bus times or parking. The relationship has become more equal: we are both in our own spaces, we are both making the connection.
Alongside life transitions, I have experience supporting people with anxiety, depression, trauma, bereavement, relationship difficulties, identity and self-esteem. I also have a particular interest in neurodiversity and supporting neurodivergent clients through a person-centred approach.
With a background in working for the Scottish Ambulance Service, I am happy to offer concessionary rates to people working for any UK Ambulance Service.
I am a verified counsellor with BUPA, so if you have health insurance with BUPA, your insurance might cover the cost. Please email me if you'd like more information about this.
Have a look at my website, or email me from here, if you'd like to arrange a free 15 minute initial meeting, or a session. I'll respond as soon as I can - do check your spam folder for my reply.
As a person-centred counsellor, I welcome you, as a whole person, and look forward to working with you.
My first session
We can begin with a free 15-minute Zoom conversation, giving you the opportunity to ask questions and explore whether we'd be a good fit.
If you decide to go ahead, sessions usually last 50 minutes and can be weekly or fortnightly. In our first session, we'll talk about what has brought you to counselling, what you'd like from our work, and the boundaries of our therapeutic relationship, including confidentiality.
You don't need to have a clear goal. We'll work at your pace, exploring what feels important to you and allowing your needs and priorities to guide our sessions.
We’ll always work on what you want to bring. You might have a clear goal in mind, or perhaps you just have a sense that counselling will be helpful for you. I'll do my best to build a trusting relationship between us where you can bring anything and everything – even your most frightening and uncomfortable things - when you are ready to do so.
