About me and my therapy practice

I'm Josephine, a therapist, supervisor, and clinical director who has spent over a decade working with individuals and couples across private practice, the NHS, prisons, and organisational settings.

I came into this work the long way round. Not through a straight academic path, but through redundancy, a lifelong instinct for listening, and a moment where I thought: it's now or never. I've always been a counsellor. I just needed the paperwork to prove it.

What I love most is relationship work. Couples who've lost each other and want to find their way back. Individuals navigating dating, intimacy, sexual confidence, or the question of why the same patterns keep showing up. Men and women figuring out what they actually want from a relationship, not what they've been told to want. The stuff that's messy, real, and rarely fits neatly into a diagnosis.

I work integratively, which is a fancy way of saying I don't believe one approach fits everyone. I draw on psychology, philosophy, anthropology, and the humanities subjects, but mostly, I bring myself. A Black woman, neurodivergent, born to Nigerian parents, raised in London, I understand difference. I know what it's like to feel like you don't quite fit, and I think that makes me a better therapist, not despite it, but because of it.

Practice description

I work primarily online, with access to therapy rooms in London Bridge for those who prefer to meet in person.

Sessions are 50 minutes for individuals and 60 minutes for couples. I keep my practice intentionally small so I can be fully present with each client.

What to expect from me: directness, warmth, and no jargon. I'm not a nod-and-reflect therapist. I'll engage with you, challenge you when needed, and help you move towards something concrete. I believe therapy should feel like a conversation with someone who's genuinely in your corner.

I work with:

— Couples navigating communication breakdowns, intimacy, infidelity, or simply feeling like flatmates

— Individuals struggling with dating, relationship patterns, sexual confidence, or identity

— Men who want a therapist who'll be straight with them, not just listen

— People from all backgrounds who want a therapist who understands that culture, race, and lived experience aren't footnotes — they're the whole picture

I'm a Certified Sex Therapy Informed Professional (CSTIP), trained in ACT, intercultural therapy, and couples work. I'm also a clinical supervisor, which means my practice is held to a higher standard of reflective accountability.

My first session

The first session is about getting the measure of each other. Therapy only works if there's a fit, so I treat that first meeting as a two-way conversation. An opportunity to see how we work together.

I'll want to understand what's brought you to therapy now, what you've tried before, and what you're hoping will be different. For couples, I'll see you together first, then may suggest individual sessions to understand each person's perspective. For individuals, it's a straightforward conversation about where you are and where you'd like to be.

There's no assessment form to fill in beforehand, no homework, no pressure to have your story perfectly articulated. You just need to show up.

The first session is charged at my standard rate. I also offer a free 15-minute phone or video call beforehand if you'd like to get a sense of me before committing. I'd encourage you to take that option. Choosing a therapist is personal, and you should feel confident in your choice before you invest your time and money.
