About me and my therapy practice

I am a professionally qualified BACP accredited counsellor, creative play practitioner and supervisor. This means I am trained in a number of different counselling modalities, which gives me a greater range of evidenced-based resources I can adapt to work with you in the way you need.

Prior to training as a counsellor, I worked in the world of education including special schools, and more recently with the Specialist School Nursing Team in Suffolk.

I have spent over 25 years working closely with individuals, parents, children, and families supporting them through their difficulties - covering everything from bereavement, bullying, depression, divorce, and stress, to building independence and confidence in young people.

I work with adults, children and young people who identify as being neurodiverse including those with a diagnosis of autism, social communication, and executive functioning difficulties. I also support individuals with their self-esteem and personal development using a variety of counselling approaches, including creative interventions.

Practice description

I offer a safe and confidential space in which we can explore whatever you wish to discuss, through traditional talking therapy plus a range of creative approaches including sand tray therapy, which have proven highly effective in my work with children and adults.

I find creative tools can be useful for helping people to explore their feelings in an abstract way. Sometimes, it is difficult for children and adults to find words to express how they feel; using other methods to put feelings across can be equally as valuable as talking.

At the heart of my approach is the belief that we all have an inner drive towards growth and wholeness. Sometimes this natural process may be blocked by negative or traumatic experiences, and patterns of unhelpful thoughts or behaviours. Our sessions together build on the idea that you know yourself better than anyone; I am a mirror and companion for you in your journey of self-exploration.

My first session

I offer a 15-minute free telephone consultation.

This will give us the opportunity to discuss what has brought you to counselling, and what your goals are. If you feel I can offer the support, you are seeking then a session appointment will be offered.

During the initial first session we will discuss and complete the therapy contract.

About me and my therapy practice

The core of my supervisory practice lies in nurturing the therapeutic relationship. I firmly believe that prioritizing and cultivating a strong rapport is essential for effectively meeting the needs of our clients.

My approach to supervision draws inspiration from Humanistic Philosophy, while being grounded in the theoretical frameworks of Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Creative Therapies and Mindfulness.

I find that integrating these diverse approaches enhances the depth and quality of the supervisory relationship. They provide me with a robust framework to guide supervisees in their personal growth, self-awareness, and professional development.

Practice description

I operate a private practice from my garden office in Stretham, Cambridgeshire, offering both face-to-face and remote sessions via Zoom.

Supervision serves as a cornerstone in elevating our client work. I am dedicated to facilitating your understanding of the physical and emotional dynamics present in your client sessions.

Our collaboration will involve thorough reflections on maintaining professional standards, establishing necessary boundaries, and optimizing your effectiveness, safety, and ethical practice. These elements are vital for our collective commitment to delivering the highest quality care.
