About me and my therapy practice
I’m Jo, an accredited integrative relational therapist and a trauma informed practitioner with specialist training in working with trauma, anxiety and emotional overwhelm.
I work with adults experiencing a wide range of difficulties, including anxiety, trauma, grief and loss, depression, Neurodivergent traits, abuse, women’s issues, family difficulties and work related stress. Many people seek therapy when they feel overwhelmed, stuck or carrying more than they can manage alone.
Practice description
How I work
My approach is warm, steady and grounded. I aim to create a safe, confidential space where you can talk openly, not feel judged and feel genuinely heard. It is completely natural to feel nervous about starting therapy, and finding someone you feel comfortable with is important. My intention is to help you feel supported and understood from the beginning.
I see you as the expert in your own life. My role is to listen closely, ask thoughtful questions and pay attention to how your experiences have shaped you. I draw on a range of therapeutic approaches so that our work reflects your unique, individual needs. Together, we may explore past experiences and relationships to understand how they influence your present, and gently notice any patterns that may be holding you back.
We will work at a pace that feels right for you, creating space for reflection, understanding and meaningful change.
What I Offer
• Free, no obligation 20 minute telephone consultation
• 50 minute therapy sessions
• Face to face counselling in central Harrogate
• Online sessions via Microsoft Teams
• Telephone counselling
• Short term focused work or longer term deeper exploration
Accreditation & Ethical Practice
I am an Accredited Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work in accordance with the BACP Ethical Framework. I am committed to ongoing professional development and regularly engage in training and CPD to ensure my practice remains safe, ethical and effective.
My first session
Your first therapy session (following the free, no‑obligation phone call) is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and explore what has brought you to counselling. We’ll talk about what you’re experiencing, what you’re hoping to achieve in counselling, and what feels important for me to understand as we begin.
The first session also includes collecting some basic details from you and agreeing our counselling contract. We’ll go through my privacy and data‑protection information so you know exactly how your data is stored and looked after. This forms an essential part of working ethically and safeguarding your information.
