About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I specialise in working with adults with physical health conditions and disabilities. I also have an understanding of neurodiversity and how it can impact on health, along with hormonal issues such as peri/menopause and premenstrual syndrome. I offer online and telephone sessions only.
Living with a physical health condition, chronic illness or disability can be very stressful and debilitating. It can bring up lots of emotions such as grief, frustration, anxiety, hopelessness and despair. Often, multiple areas of our lives are impacted by the health condition or disability; our relationships, work, finances, hobbies etc. Life can feel as if it has shrunk and become very small. We may also have to deal with disbelief from the medical profession, society and the benefits system. All of this can impact our self-esteem, identity, view of the world and hope for the future.
As someone who has suffered from a chronic illness for 25 years, I understand the emotional impact that a physical health problem or disability can have. Psychotherapy can help you to explore and make sense of what you are feeling, help you to reduce stress, find ways to manage your health condition and enable you to connect with or build a sense of hope. The issues that you bring to therapy may be directly related to your health condition or they may be other concerns.
Qualifications and experience
I have a Bachelor's degree in Human Psychology and a Master's degree in Integrative Psychotherapy and I am accredited with the BACP. I have worked in general counselling agencies, student mental health and as a counsellor for the charity Action for M.E. I have many years' experience supporting people with a wide variety of health conditions and disabilities and I also have experience as a carer myself. Please see my website for more information.
Practice description
I provide online counselling and psychotherapy by Zoom or Microsoft Teams. I can also provide therapy by telephone for those unable to use video.
Standard sessions are 50 minutes but I have a limited number of shorter 30-minute sessions for clients who are unable to engage in 50-minute sessions due to the severity of their health condition.
Therapy takes place on a weekly or fortnightly basis depending on your needs and preference and we can decide on how many sessions you might need in the first session or as therapy progresses.
Fees
£40 for 50 minutes
£30 concessionary fee for 50 mins (please contact me for more information)
£20 for 30 minutes
How I work
I am an integrative psychotherapist which means that I draw on a range of different ways of working in order to offer you therapy which is flexibly tailored to your individual needs. Please see my website for more information on how I practice and how I can help you.
I offer a free initial 15 minute telephone or video call for you to decide if you would like to book an initial session with me. Please feel free to get in touch to discuss how I might be able to help.
I understand how having a physical health condition or disability can impact on your ability to attend and engage in therapy and I will do my best to work with you to make any adjustments which you may need.

My first session
We will meet for an initial assessment session (50-60 minutes) in which we will discuss what has brought you to therapy and how I might be able to help you. If we both agree to work together, I will usually suggest an initial block of 6 sessions with a review at session 6, but there is no obligation to book a certain number of sessions.
