About me and my therapy practice

When Life Feels Harder Than It Should

Perhaps you've spent years trying to meet expectations, keep others happy or work out how you're supposed to be. You might look as though you're managing well, while privately struggling with anxiety, self-doubt, relationships or the exhaustion of constantly adapting to the world around you.

I'm Beth, a BACP-accredited person-centred therapist offering online therapy for adults across the UK. I have a particular interest in working with neurodivergent adults and LGBTQ+ people, as well as anyone who has felt different or out of step with the expectations placed on them.

A Space to Be Yourself

You might be exploring your identity, making sense of a late diagnosis, navigating relationships or beginning to understand yourself in a new way. Perhaps you've spent a long time trying to fit in, masking parts of yourself or putting other people's needs before your own.

My interest in neurodivergence and LGBTQ+ experiences is informed by personal understanding, ongoing learning, specialist training of how important it can be to feel seen and accepted for who you are.

I aim to offer a warm, open-minded space where you don't have to justify who you are, hide parts of yourself or explain away your experiences. Your identity, relationships and experiences are welcome here. We can explore what matters to you with openness, respect and curiosity.

Practice description

A Way of Working That Fits You

My person-centred approach is collaborative and guided by what matters to you. You might want space to talk and reflect, explore patterns in your relationships or make sense of feelings that are difficult to put into words. You don't need to arrive knowing exactly what you want to say or where to begin.

We'll work together to understand your experiences, without following a predetermined path or expecting you to fit a particular mould.

Online Therapy

Sessions take place via Microsoft Teams, allowing you to attend from home or wherever you feel most comfortable. You don't need to create an account or download an app to join.

Workplace Wellbeing

Alongside my private practice, I work with schools and workplaces to support staff wellbeing and mental health. Support can be tailored to the needs of each setting.

My first session

Getting started is simple.

Starting therapy can feel like a big step, particularly if you're used to managing things on your own or putting other people's needs first. You don't need to have everything figured out before you begin.

I offer a free, informal 15-minute introductory chat by video or voice. It's an opportunity for us to meet, discuss any questions you have and get a sense of whether working together feels right for you, with no pressure or obligation to book.

If you'd like to go ahead, I'll email you the paperwork explaining how we'll work together, along with a short form to complete securely. Once that's done, we'll arrange a time for your first session.

Our first session

We might talk about what's brought you to therapy and what you'd like from our work together. There's no pressure to share more than feels comfortable. We'll begin by getting to know what's important to you and take things from there.

You can get in touch by email, phone, text or through my website: www.ElizabethPaterson.co.uk.
