About me and my therapy practice
Welcome. Whether you are considering therapy for personal growth, to explore a specific issue or because you feel something is not quite right within you or your life, I can offer you a therapeutic space where your unique experience can be explored.
I am an experienced and professionally qualified counsellor and psychotherapist, my goal is to work in collaboration with you to give you the time, safe space and support that you need to make the changes in your life that you are looking for.
I work primarily with the person-centred approach, a humanistic therapy which puts the client at the centre and respects the uniqueness of people. It is built on a core belief in human potential and growth. Integral to the approach is the belief that healing does not come from being ‘fixed’ but from being met, accurately, compassionately and without judgement.
This approach relies on the relationship between therapist and client as the foremost healing element of therapy. Research across various therapeutic modalities supports the view that it is the relationship which heals.
As a clinician I bring warmth, authenticity and deep respect for your autonomy. My role is not to direct you but to walk alongside you, noticing what emerges in the moment and supporting you to reconnect with parts of yourself which may be silenced or neglected. Together we create a space where your whole self feels welcome.
I have been practicing as a therapist for over 10 years providing counselling and psychotherapy for adults of all ages, in a variety of settings both in person and online. I am a registered member of BACP and UKCP. I hold an MSC in Contemporary Person-Centred Psychotherapy from the Metanoia Institute, a PGDip in Person-Centred Counselling form Aberdeen University and Compassionate Inquiry Professional Online Training.
Practice description
Currently I am working mostly online via zoom although I can sometimes offer in-person sessions depending on location and availability.
Sessions are weekly and last for 50 minutes. These can be either short or long-term depending on your needs and preferences. My fee is £60 per session.
I do offer a limited amount of reduced fee sessions to counselling and psychotherapy trainees, and those on lower incomes. Please feel free to ask about availability. I know that finding the right therapist and coming to therapy is a daunting task so I do offer a free half an hour (via zoom) to new clients so that you can ask any questions you may have and so that we can get a feel for how it might be to work together.
Above all you can expect me to be engaged, honest and compassionate – committed to offering a therapeutic relationship that supports both your emotional safety and your capacity for growth.
My first session
Our first session is grounded in safety rather than assessment. There will be an opportunity for us to discuss my way of working, touch on some practical details and get to know each other. There is no pressure for you to tell your whole story or get anything ‘right’. We go at a pace which feels manageable to you.
You may choose to talk about what has brought you to therapy, what feels most alive for you right now or what you are hoping you might change. At times I may gently reflect, ask a curious question or invite you to notice what is happening within you in the moment, this is not about analysing or diagnosing you, it is about beginning to understand your inner world with compassion.
If you are feeling anxious, uncertain or unsure about where to start, that is completely welcome here. We can include that too. Often simply being together in a steady attuned way allows something important to begin to unfold.
By the end of the session, we will have a sense of whether working together feels like a good fit and what next steps might be. More than anything the first session is about creating a foundation of trust, safety and gentle curiosity from which deeper work can grow.
