About me and my therapy practice

I am a fully qualified and accredited psychotherapeutic counsellor with over 10 years of clinical experience. I have a warm and compassionate presence and can offer you a safe, non-judgemental and supportive space to feel deeply listened to. I am committed to recognising and respecting the individuality of each person and value working with people from all walks of life.

Life can be full of struggle. You may be feeling depressed or anxious. You may be experiencing unhelpful repeating patterns or conflict in a relationship. Perhaps you find yourself stuck, alone, or simply unclear about things in your life. Counselling can help us to find clarity and new perspectives by talking through and making sense of our experiences, thereby gaining a deeper understanding of ourselves and our needs together with more helpful ways of thinking and being.

I will work collaboratively with you to help you explore whatever you find yourself struggling with, offering skilled attention and acceptance. I hope to provide an empathetic balance between support and challenge so you can work with what is difficult at a pace that feels right for you. At the heart of my approach is the belief that given the opportunity we all have the innate resources and capacity for healing, growth and change.

I am a registered and accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). This means I have met the BACP high quality standard as a competent, ethical and independent practitioner. Alongside my private practice, I work for an NHS Talking Therapies Service providing short-term counselling to a diverse client group.

Practice description

As an integrative therapist, I draw from a range of therapeutic approaches and techniques which allows me to adapt my way of working to meet each client’s individual needs. I was trained mainly in humanistic and person-centred therapies, but also in psychodynamic and cognitive behavioural approaches. I also work with mindfulness and compassion-based therapies.

I consider the therapeutic relationship to be an important part of the healing process and endeavour to foster a trusting and real relationship with you. Working holistically, I will strive to develop a personally meaningful conversation with you and to understand your whole person.

I work with a wide range of presenting issues including stress and anxiety, bereavement and loss, depression, health-related issues, low self-esteem, relationship and family issues, trauma and abuse. I have specialist experience of working with women experiencing mental health difficulties during the perinatal period such as antenatal and postnatal depression.

My first session

Our initial session will be an opportunity for us to meet and for you to tell me a little about what brings you to therapy and what you want to get from it, and for me to assess how best I can help you. It provides a chance for you to get a sense of the way I work and to ask any questions. If we think we can work together, we will look at how you want to work together and agree on whether you would like to work with a set number of sessions or with an open end.
