About me and my therapy practice
My intention is to provide you with a safe, caring, confidential and welcoming space through life’s ups and downs, and to bring my full, open minded attention to whatever you wish to explore.
After a challenging period in my own adolescence I went on to spend over ten years working with people who are homeless. I worked in a number of settings including hostels, drop in centres and street outreach.
Now I work three days per week for a charity called Adoption UK and a one day for a fostering agency. I also have a small private practice seeing adults, teens and families. All of my work is heavily informed by DDP principles, Therapeutic Life Story Work, and the studies I've completed in attachment theory under Patricia Crittenden.
I spend the rest of my time parenting, trying (but mostly failing) to grow vegetables, getting muddy on Dartmoor and clean in the river Dart.
I believe passionately that everyone should have a supportive, non-judgemental, attentive companion through life’s ups and downs. I have been lucky enough to have such allies, and I would like to offer this support to you.
I am a UKCP accredited and BACP registered psychotherapist. I am also currently a Practitioner becoming certified in DDP and I am qualified in Therapeutic Life Story Work. I graduated with an MA in Mindfulness Based Psychotherapy from The Karuna Institute in 2018. I have a Post Graduate Diploma in the Therapeutic Application of the Arts from The Institute for Arts in Therapy and Education.
If you choose to come for psychotherapy with me our relationship will be based on equality. You set the agenda and there is an understanding that you are the only expert on yourself. I bring the skills needed for the exploration, and encouragement and support when things get painful or difficult.
My aim is to offer you a safe, supportive, confidential space to be heard in your story so far, supported in the moment, and resourced and empowered for the future.
Practice description
My practice is located in Ipplepen, ten minutes drive from either Totnes or Newton Abbott; and half an hour from Exeter and Plymouth.
I practice from a tranquil and private cabin in a walled garden.
I work with adults of all ages.
I also offer a specific young adults service to individuals aged 14-25. Please go to https://www.meghanmysapsychotherapy.co.uk/young-adult-psychotherapy to find out more.
Finally I offer DDP family therapy https://www.meghanmysapsychotherapy.co.uk/general-5
and Therapeutic Life Story Work https://www.meghanmysapsychotherapy.co.uk/therapeutic-life-story-work usually to foster and adoptive families.
My first session
I offer an initial meeting free of charge so that we can explore whether we could work well together.
Psychotherapy is often an in-depth process. It takes time to build trust in the relationship with the therapist and to become aware of the many subtle elements contributing to thoughts, feelings and behaviour. For this reason psychotherapy is rarely a quick fix and most people come for some time (although many people find that space ring fenced to talk is helpful right away). That said, it is your decision how long you come for and how broad, or focused, your enquiry is.
We would typically start with six sessions to decide whether you would like us to explore further together.
