About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I am Vanessa, an integrative therapist and I have lived in Devon for the last 30 plus years. I am Canadian and still have, I am told, a relatively strong accent which I often forget I have. I also have been told that I have a friendly and welcoming disposition, which is important to me as holding the space for my clients to challenge their concerns safely and comfortably is to key to work we do. Together we personalise the approach enabling us to explore the issues you are facing
I believe that finding the right therapist is important for the therapeutic work to be successful, it is vital that you feel comfortable with your therapist. For this reason, I offer a free 20 minute initial telephone call or Zoom session without any obligation.
My experience has been gained through my private practice and previous role as a Clinical Lead and senior therapist at a busy mental health charity based in Barnstaple. I have a wide and varied range of experience. working with adult clients aged 18+ in 1-2-1 sessions as well as group work. I now offer both short and long term therapy to suit your needs.
Practice description
I work as an integrative therapist which simply means that I use my knowledge of several psychological models to personalise our work to suit your specific needs. I also find psycho-education can be beneficial, increasing your self-awareness and confidence.
What I can offer you is a greater understanding of your mental health and where you are now. We can identify specific tools for you to use to enable you to move forward. Moving towards a greater sense of balance and control. This is a collaborative process; I work with your input and feedback to find the process that works for you.
For example, some areas we can explore; events in your past and the influence they have on you now and/or looking at how current relationships are working, the dynamics and how they are influencing your feelings. These can result in inner narratives which impact on a day-to-day basis however there are many other ways which we can discover together to find to help support you moving forward.
For you, asking for support is the most important first step when life feels overwhelming; low mood, anxiety, confusion, irritability and isolation are some of the feelings we can experience when times are challenging. You are not alone and taking this time for yourself is a vital act of self-care.
I look forward to hearing from you.

About me and my therapy practice
Level 6 - Qualified Clinical Supervisor. Alongside my counselling experience I have managed, mentored and supported experienced and trainee counsellors. My supervision work echos this experience, I follow the Seven-Eyed Model of Supervision and have additional training in online counselling.
As counsellors it can be an isolating profession I believe that supervision offers the time to ethically reflect on client work, explore new tools and check in with where you are personally. Therefore safeguarding and supporting you and your clients.
Practice description
Our therapeutic relationship with clients is at the cornerstone of the success of counselling. This is also true in Supervision, and I hold this at the core of my work therefore, I aim to support my supervisees in their client work; their well-being, theoretical knowledge and growth. I have experience in private therapy and within a busy mental health charity where I managed and worked with qualified and trainee therapists. I am trained Integratively with a Person-centred foundation; I utilise my professional experience and specific training in Hawkins & Shohet's seven-eyed model for supervision and offer both face-to-face and online sessions.
If you are interested in the collaborative work I offer then please contact me for a free initial conversation.
