About me and my therapy practice
I offer a unique therapeutic approach. I use evidence based EMDR trauma therapy and IFS counselling with all my clients. Together these two methods work gently, quickly and effectively with almost all common difficulties that clients bring.
Should you want to know more before booking a session, I would suggest we have a short, no charge, call so that you can share briefly your main reasons for seeking help at this time. If I feel my approach will help and you would like to go ahead and book some sessions then we would typically agree 6-8 sessions. This is often sufficient time to process a single incident trauma experience. We will review at session 6 to consider where we are in the process at that time. Can we comfortably complete our work and achieve your desired outcomes or do we need to schedule a few more sessions. When trauma is more complex meaning trauma experienced during developmental years and/or repeated trauma we can expect to need some months to complete.
My methodology is always collaborative and my goal is to support you in reconnecting with your own internal guidance system. This work strengthens your inner compass and your confidence in your ability to love and care for Self.
Practice description
I have over ten years experience delivering a variety of therapeutic approaches within a range of settings.
I have worked within hospices, charities, schools, social care and NHS IAPT services helping families and children. I use creative and integrative approaches that can be adapted to the clients needs.
Alongside traditional talking therapies and creative therapies I offer EMDR treatment. This can be a standalone approach or used in conjunction with other therapies. EMDR psychotherapy can help people to recover from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of adverse life experiences/trauma. I am a registered member of EMDR UK association; emdrassociation.org.uk
My approach is relaxed, and containing. I aim always to create a collaborative relationship. You are the expert in your life. Starting from here we can explore what prompted you to seek support as well as the changes you are hoping to make.
I am a registered Arts Therapist with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC), a registered member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (MBACP), and a registered EMDR Practitioner with the EMDR Association UK.
My first session
I suggest our initial appointment is for gathering information that will support the beginnings of a treatment plan. This process helps you to know if my approach is a good fit for you.
We do not begin to process any traumatic memories until you feel ready and safe to do so. This typically takes up to two or three sessions and if necessary four sessions.
